Which Tottenham Players Would You Put On The Transfer List? via EPL Talk October 7th, 2008 at 11:15

image With Tottenham Hotspur experiencing their worst start to a season since 1912, it’s time for desperate measures at White Hart Lane. If you were in charge of the club, which players would you put on the transfer list, which personnel would you sack and who would you keep? Here are my picks: Sack them: Daniel Levy, chairman, Damien Comolli, sporting director, Juande Ramos, manager. Put them on the transfer list: Jermaine Jenas, vice-captain, Gilberto, David Bentley, Darren Bent, Didier Zokora, Michael Dawson, Benoit Assou-Ekotto, Hossam Ghaly. Jury is still out: Luka Modric, Heurelho Gomes, Giovani Dos Santos, Roman Pavlyuchenko, Aaron Lennon, Fraizer Campbell. Keep them: Gus Poyet, assistant manager, Gareth Bale, Jonathan Woodgate, Chris Gunter, Alan Hutton, Tom......

Redknapp Must Resist Overhaul via EPL Talk October 30th, 2008 at 10:43

image Harry Redknapp’s arrival at Tottenham has been seen as a chance for Spurs to start again and get back on track, something that is becoming an annual event at White Hart Lane. But back in 2004 Tottenham were again on the brink of a new era. French national team coach Jacques Santini had just taken over as manager and the club had installed Frank Arnesen as Director of Football, as Spurs chairman Daniel Levy continued to deploy a more continental approach to managing the club, despite the failings of Glenn Hoddle and David Pleat. Santini had forged an impressive reputation in France, where he started Lyon’s incredible run of 7 consecutive league titles, and took over from Roger Lemerre after the 2002 World Cup. Despite a poor showing at Euro 2004, France were knocked out by...

Tottenham Fans: Stop Making Damien Comolli The Scapegoat via EPL Talk October 20th, 2008 at 10:55

image What’s most revealing about the demise of Tottenham Hotspur is not how Juande Ramos appears so dispassionate and out of his depth on the touchline, but how Spurs fans are blaming the downfall of their club on Damien Comolli and not Ramos. In two separate polls conducted by EPL Talk, fans appear to more upset about Daniel Levy and Damien Comolli than they are about the former Sevilla manager. When asked which Spurs manager should have the job of managing the club if Tottenham would lose against Stoke, 58% of the respondents sided with Juande Ramos instead of people like Terry Venables, Harry Redknapp and Gus Poyet. And when asked who is to blame for the disaster at Spurs, only 17% of the respondents blamed Ramos (at the time of writing this article). To me, this is astonishing. Take...

Premiership Preview–6. Tottenham via EPL Talk August 8th, 2008 at 19:38

image The 2007-2008 season was a roller coaster for Tottenham Hotspur. Martin Jol was removed from the manager’s post in late October, but only found out through a text message sent to his nephew, who then forwarded the news to the Dutchman’s phone. A team that was a trendy pick to break into the top four at Arsenal’s expense was sitting around 15th place at the time, and for all the plaudits received by Juande Ramos for the job he did after he took over from Jol, Spurs still only wound up in 11th. They beat Chelsea to win the Carling Cup, but Ramos isn’t being paid a whopping $9 million per season for mid-table finishes. Spurs have undergone considerable change under Ramos, both on the field and off. The Spaniard implemented new dietary and fitness standards to keep...

Is David Bentley Really Worth 15 Million Pounds? via EPL Talk July 31st, 2008 at 09:26

image So David Bentley, the right winger who many believe will be the successor to David Beckham, has signed for Tottenham Hotspur in a deal worth 15 million pounds. But is he worth it? For Tottenham, Blackburn and David Bentley, the transfer move is a win-win-win. The former Blackburn, Norwich and Arsenal player will improve his game at Tottenham under the tutelage of Juande Ramos and assistant coach Gus Poyet. For Bentley, it’s a smart career move. It’s also a smart business decision by Blackburn. Fifteen million dollars is a lot of money for the Lancashire side. Rovers can use that money to buy two players. Liverpool’s Jermaine Pennant is a £6 million target to replace Bentley, which leaves Blackburn money to spare to sign someone within the August transfer window...
