Apple’s latest iPhone app, iMovie is supposed to be for the iPhone 4 only, the reason for this is that the iPhone 4 has 512MB of RAM as opposed to 256MB on the iPhone 3GS.
David Romhan Torres, a Redmond Pie reader, has managed to port iMovie onto the iPhone 3GS, and as you will see in the video below it works pretty well.
You can find out full details on how to do this over at Redmond Pie, you will need an jailbroken iPhone 3GS for it to work.
via 9 To 5......

When Apple [AAPL] announced iMovie, it was released as an iPhone 4 only application. If trying to install the official version on the the iPhone 3GS or any other iOS 4 (other than the iPhone 4) device it simply doesn't work.If you have a jailbroken iPhone 3GS though, you can now actually get it to run by making a modification to the info.plist file. There are two changes that can be made to get it working on a 3GS. The first is to make a change to the front facing camera and simply set it to false. This allows it to work on iOS 4 on the 3GS. The other option to get it working on iOS 3 is to change the minimum system version to 3.0.0 which also forces it to work.According to those who have tried it appears that it works fine despite the lower amount of RAM available. Something to note...

We have just hooked our shiny new iPhone 4 up to iTunes and activated it, and have had a chance to test it out briefly, so we thought we would let you guys know what our initial impressions are of the new iPhone 4.
As you can see from the photos, the new iPhone 4 features a completely new design, the built quality feels better than that of the iPhone 3GS, and we really like the new design.
The new screen looks amazing, a lot sharper than that on the iPhone 3GS, I would say this is the best display we have seen so far on a smartphone, it is really crisp and clear, images and text look amazing on it.
After running a few apps on the iPhone 4, it feels considerably faster than the iPhone 3GS, applications and games loads a lot faster, and games seem to run a lot better on it.
iOS 4 is...

Yesterday we told you that the iPhone Dev Team had released Redsn0w iOS 4 jailbreak for the iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 2G. The iPhone Dev Team has now released Pwnage Tool 4.01 which will jailbreak your iPhone 3G and 3GS.
Pwnage Tool 4.01 does not support the iPhone 2G, iPod Touch and the iPod Touch 3G, and there are a few caveats on the iPhone 3GS and 3G which you can see listed below.
iPhone 3GS
Summary: Currently, PwnageTool only works on previously jailbroken 3GS devices with the old bootrom.
If you have a Jailbroken iPhone 3GS with the OLD BOOTROM and you DID NOT use Spirit to jailbreak then you can create the ipsw with PwnageTool 4.0 and restore with your jailbroken recovery mode.
If you have an iPhone 3GS with the NEW BOOTROM this is NOT supported by PwnageTool 4.0 PwnageTool 4.01...

Andy Ihnatko decided to try his iPhone 3GS, which he had upgraded to iOS 4 with his Apple keyboard dock for his iPad, and surprisingly it actually worked.
As you can see in the video below it works pretty well, and the home buttons, spotlight search, cut, copy and paste all work with the iPad keyboard dock, you can of course use a Bluetooth keyboard with the iPhone running iOS 4.
It seems that the iPhone 3GS won’t work with other USB keyboards using the camera connector like you can on the iPad, although you can use the iPhone in landscape mode using a dock connector extension cable.

When Apple announced the new iPhone 4, once of the features that looked interesting was the Retina Display, which according to Apple, has four times the amount of pixels of that of the current iPhone 3GS.
When Apple showed off the iPhone at the WWDC the Retina Display, did look impressive, although we have seen a number of articles online saying that the display isn’t as good as Apple said, well you can ow judge for yourself, from the picture below.
As you can see the new iPhone 4 screen is featured on the photo on the left and the 3GS on the right, the difference is amazing. The new iPhone 4 display looks so much clearer and sharper than that of the iPhone 3GS.

Apple recently announced the new and long awaited for new iPhone 4 but also at the same time a new 8GB more affordable version of iPhone 3GS (which to be fair is still an excellent phone!). If you’re a newcomer to the iPhone and is considering the latest iPhone 4 as your first when it becomes available on June 24th, here’s a nice and quick comparison of which suits your needs best. Hope this helps anyone struggling to choose which to splash your cash on!

iPhone 3GS vs iPhone 4 – which to choose?...

If Apple [AAPL] impressed you enough to grab an iPhone 4 in the next couple of weeks then you might be able to save a bit of money by selling your old phone back to O2.We don't yet know the iPhone 4 UK price, but we are hearing rumours that it will fall in line with what the iPhone 3GS prices were recently ie, if you pay more per month and commit for longer you'll get it for free and then the lower you commit, it will cost more out right. On to the O2 deal, we noticed recently that they have a recycling scheme going on and the prices they are willing to pay back are not bad at all. Looking at the prices we see that the iPhone 3GS 32GB fetches up to £253 while the 16GB 3GS will pay you £240.If you go to the recycling page and enter the details of your device you might be surprised with...

Yesterday Apple [AAPL] released the renamed iOS 4 GM (formerly iPhone OS 4.0) to developers. After only a day a developer has managed to create PwnageTool bundles for the iPhone 3GS iOS 4 GM download allowing users to jailbreak their iPhone 3GS whilst preserving the baseband so that the device can be unlocked. If you are an advanced iPhone user then you might want to go ahead now and apply the iOS 4 GM jailbreak although we recommend just hanging on a bit longer as the iPhone Dev Team have promised a jailbreak and unlock this month for iOS 4.However, if you still want to take a sneak peak then check out the file which can be found over here. We expect to hear a lot more on iPhone 4 jailbreaking and unlocking over the coming weeks so stay tuned. For now, take a look at the video...

Now this has a whiff of iPhone mini but never-the-less Senior analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo, from Digitimes has bravely stated that the iPhone 4G project consists of not one but two different products!
Yup – two iPhone 4G’s codenamed the N90 and N91!
The N90 is apparently the one that’s been left in a bar, groped, dissected and filmed and the interesting one (the one I’ve only just heard about) is the N91. By all accounts the N91 is a cut-down edition of the full N90, intended to step in if there are significant delays to the N90 “due to spec modifications”.
Now the thing that springs to mind is that the iPhone 4.0 looks quite a lot different to the 3Gs and we know how picky Apple is about looks and style. Apple is already killing off the......

If you go online to the Apple stores in the US this morning, you will see that the iPhone 3G is still listed, but you can’t actually buy it, as Apple has removed that option from the US store, does this mean that Apple has discontinued the iPhone 3G?
We just checked the UK Apple store and the iPhone 3G is still available for sale with Orange, but it isn’t available for sale with O2, this could mean that Apple are clearing out stocks of the iPhone 3G and as soon as they are gone the iPhone 3G will be discontinued.
We have already seen the price of the iPhone 3GS drop in the US, as it is now available for $97 from Walmart. Apple are expected to announce the next generation iPhone at their World Wide Developer Conference on June the 7th.
If you are in the market for an iPhone...

Wal-Mart is dropping the price of the 16GB Apple iPhone 3GS down to $97 starting today. This move is expected due to the release of the newer unannounced/leaked Apple iPhone 4G that should be launching next month.By dropping prices, it is expected that the retailer will clear out most of it's remaining inventory to make way for the next generation device. The new price knocks around $100 off the previous price which was $199. To get the 16GB 3GS at $97 you need to enter a two year agreement with AT&T.It is also expected that other retailers who are authorised to sell the iPhone will follow suit and drop prices in preparation for next months launch. If you still want an iPhone 3GS then I'd be tempted to take advantage now of the new offer that Wal-Mart has as it's a great deal.Via:...

Walmart has announced that it will start selling the 16GB version of the iPhone 3GS for $97 with a two year contract with AT&T. Apple is due to announce the next generation iPhone on June 7th 2010 at their World Wide Developers Conference.
Currently the iPhone 3G, which was launched in 2008 is the budget version of the iPhone, we suspect Apple will stop selling the iPhone 3G when the new model launches and the iPhone 3GS will become the budget model.
This makes sense for Apple as the iPhone 3G won’t run all the features of iPhone OS 4.0, whilst the iPhone 3GS will and Apple would want all new devices sold to use the iPhone OS 4.0.
This strategy has worked for them in the past, as they have sold the iPhone 3G along with the iPhone 3GS over the past year, meaning they are getting...

Tesco Mobile have made changes to their iPhone tariffs that include several new 12 month contracts. Prices are as follows…For a 12 month contract paying £35/month you can get the iPhone for the following prices… iPhone 3G 8GB – £100 iPhone 3GS 16GB – £200 iPhone 3GS 32GB – £275If you want to get a free iPhone 3GS (16GB) you can pay £45/month on a 24 month contract. The prices aren’t bad at all. With the 12 month £35/month contract you get unlimited texts, data and Wi-Fi along with 750 minutes per month.Calls on the Tesco network actually are routed on the O2 network in the UK, so you get exactly the same coverage as O2 although Tesco Mobile handle all the customer support and billing is also handled by Tesco.Full details on the price plans and...

Tesco has launched a new range of contracts for the Apple iPhone in the UK, reducing the time you have to sign up to a contract from 18 months to 12 months, which could make it more attractive to iPhone users who want the new model every 12 months.
The new contracts are available for both the iPhone 3G and 3GS, you can get an 8GB iPhone 3G for £100, 16GB iPhone 3GS for £200 and a 32GB iPhone 3GS for £275 on a twelve month contract which costs £35 ore month.
For you £35 a month you get unlimited texts, data and WiFi, plus 750 minutes included per month. Tesco’s iPhone service is provided by mobile phone operator O2 in the UK who used to hold the exclusive contract for the iPhone.
The twelve month contract will definitely appeal to die hard Apple fans, who will want to upgrade...

We have seen quite a few different iPhone 3G and 3GS mods here at Geeky Gadgets, most of them are new housing for your iPhone covered in diamonds and gold and are going to set you back a fair amount of cash.
One iPhone owner, Martin Schrotz decided he didn’t like the plastic casing on the back of his iPhone 3GS so he set out to re-design it. Martin spent over three months coming up with the final version, he tried it aluminum but that didn’t work out so well, so he came up with this awesome titanium design.
Martin measured the iPhone casing digitally and then drew the cover in CAD. The final case ins constructed from titanium alloy, and this is by far the coolest iPhone mod we have seen.
Personally I think Martin should start selling these replacement cases for the iPhone...

Everyone’s seen an iPhone, and most people want one, but can you tell the difference between an iPhone 3G and an iPhone 3GS? The answer is most certainly no; they look identical to each other and are no different to the naked eye. Once you’ve used an iPhone 3GS, however, you’ll realise just how different it is.
It’s been around 6 months since the iPhone 3GS was released and at the time many people thought that it was somewhat of a low-key upgrade from the iPhone 3G, certainly it was more of an evolution than a revolution, especially when you consider what some of the 3rd generation iPhone rumours that had been going around prior to Apple’s announcement in which they introduced us to the iPhone 3GS.
So what can be added to our previous review of the iPhone 3G? Well...

So you’ve gotten yourself a brand new iPhone 3GS and think that it is the bee’s knees – well here’s news for you. It isn’t exactly the best device out there, as there still isn’t anything which can do everything well, and the iPhone 3GS is no exception. One of its major weaknesses would be less-than-satisfactory sound quality when recording, which is why the new Flexible Mini Capsule Microphone from Brando was introduced – it is highly flexible, allowing you to point the microphone on its swiveling base to receive sound from any direction, and doing so with a 25+ dB gain for enhanced sound clarity and quality. Compatible with the iPhone 3GS, iPhone 3G, iPhone 2G and iPod Nano 4G, you will be able to pick up this nifty device for $14.

The latest Apple [AAPL] rumor doing the rounds is that AT&T are going to be selling an 8GB version of the iPhone 3GS just before Christmas.
Currently the only 8GB iPhone available is the 3G, and the iPhone 3GS is available in 16GB and 32GB version, by launching an 8GB iPhone 3GS for $99, AT &T may be able to get customers who would have been interested in the new $99 DROID Eris.
As usual with all Apple rumors, it needs to be taken with a pinch of salt, mind you the BGR usually gets these things right so who knows, we may see a $99 8GB iPhone 3GS on AT&T before Christmas.

A developer called Zodttd is working on an N64 emulator for the iPhone 3GS, the iPhone 3Gs might just have enough power to run N64 games, and according to the developer it will only work on the iPhone 3GS and latest iPod Toich, which have the GPU and CPU and OpenGLES 2.0 support.
Some of the high end N64 titles might not run on the emulator, as the developer hasn’t decided how the controls are going to work for various games.
It certainly will be interesting to see how it turns out once it has been developed, it would be great to play N64 games on the iPhone.
