The media, how they do keep us all informed. Speaking to the BBC, Tony Blair was asked whether he would have gone ahead and joined the invasion of Iraq had he known there were no WMD. He replied:I would still have thought it right to remove him. I mean obviously you would have had to use and deploy different arguments, about the nature of the threat. Here is how the Guardian reports that on its front page and under the headline 'Tony Blair admits: I would have invaded Iraq anyway':Tony Blair has said he would have invaded Iraq even without evidence of weapons of mass destruction and would have found a way to justify the war to parliament and the public.

IRAQ INQUIRY – BAN BLAIR-BAITING
The PETITION TO Ban Blair-Baiting at the Iraq Inquiry has been online for a few months. NOW is its moment.
It hasn’t attracted the number of signatories of the STOP for EU/INDICT etc petitions. That is hardly surprising given the fact that people mostly vote AGAINST things, rather than FOR. It’s a well-known electoral fact and the reason most elections are won (i.e. because we want to keep a certain party out, rather than get a certain party in.)
It seems to be human nature to be motivated to action by something/someone we don’t like rather than something/someone we DO like. For proof of that visit...

Israeli deputy prime minister Silvan Shalom told Sky News he had mixed feelings about the possibility of Mr Blair leaving his job as envoy and going to Europe.
“We don’t want to lose him here, but we need him there,” he said. “I don’t want to intervene in European politics. I just would like to wish him all the best.”
Read that again, please. The Israeli Deputy PM doesn’t want to lose Blair as Quartet envoy, BUT they feel they need him in Europe!

TWO newsworthy items:
BLAIR IS BACK – BROWN BLOCKS ROMPUY
1. According to this site, in German, but you can translate, The British have “blocked” Van Rompuy as EU presidency candidate. You can read the Babel translation here
2. And also tonight Tony Blair was interviewed on Amanpour at CNN, here.
No denial, no confirmation over EU job.
Excerpt from Amanpour:

In case readers get the impression that this is the only blog out there in support of Tony Blair, it’s time to mention a few others.
And just as a reminder, there follows just some of the reasons WHY his supporters remain loyal. I don’t purport to speak for all the opinions on Tony Blair of all the below-mentioned, of course. But it seems fair to suggest that at least some of... Blair: “I was more popular at the start, but a better leader at the end” via Tony Blair

As the Iraq inquiry warms up, and it will, will those whose party he led for 13 years still hide away unsure if supporting Mr Blair should carry a health warning? Personally I find the absence of Labour party voices in support of Mr Blair not only worrying but frankly disgraceful. Hardly surprising.
