I first became aware of it due to a sudden and inexplicable increase in the hits on this blog to an old post in 2008 – itself blogged due to the same search term. Eventually I was able to track it back to this post by Guido, where the issue was aired oh-so-subtley (without actually using the word “gay” or “affair”), but rather less subtle were the commenters, some of which were very crude. Not particuarly surprising for Guido’s commenters, but still. The next “relevation” was that in 1995 Hague faced questions about the appointment of another young aide… followed by “ZOMG THEY SHARED A HOTEL ROOM...

They’re like toothless combs scraping over a bald man’s shining dome. Well, now the ASA can be equally non-effective in the online realm as they’ve got the power to wag a pointless finger at the internet as a whole. The official line is that online marketing and advertisements will face with same strict advertising rules as trad. arr. media from March next year. The reality is that people in marketing are probably shrugging their shoulders at the news and continuing to pick specks of cocaine from their receding gums. That’s quite a hit list. One blogger succinctly put it this way: he’s suing the whole internet. What for? Apparently Allen is fighting for four important patents that his lab developed some years back, patents that have become an indelible part of e-commerce and online activity in general. These include how related stories are provided after you read a particular article and search engines suggesting material you check based on your previous searches. The other two patents are those that allow ad placements and links next to an item that’s being viewed. These are the only details to have circulated in the press so far and...

Lucky Scottish Schoolkids Get Free iPads http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/geeky-gadgets/~3/zVM48IVauvs/ Fri, 03 Sep 2010 19:13:51 +0000 Geeky-Gadgets ipad Apple News free school e-reader http://www.britishblogs.co.uk/theme/free-ipads-ipad-quota-homework-mention-lessons-cedar-school/ What is being given for free over at Scotland’s Cedar School of Excellence are iPads are no less than 105 iPads have been distributed to the student body in lieu of all the other traditional learning tools. While giving free tech to the kids is nothing new, Cedar’s resident IT teacher Frasier Spiers has high hopes for the device that will be connected to a school-run wireless network. This iPad-centric approach to education makes sure students are fed a daily quota of homework and various activities, not to mention lessons in English, math, languages and history. Though mischievous kids toting iPads may inspire visions of endless hours spent on Angry Birds and YouTube, a far nobler vision is behind the move. Spiers wants the students to access experiments online—experiments that...

He has now instructed lawyers to sue the British Government on his behalf claiming he has been left 80% disabled as a result of the fall. Apparently he has experienced a ‘general downgrading of intellectual functioning’ – specifically, “slowed speed of information processing, impaired executive function, severe verbal communication difficulty and mild to moderate word-finding difficulties” Source . . . http://tinyurl.com/38ekjrr Hhmm, still got enough intellectual functioning to chance his arm spot a money-making opportunity engage a firm of solicitors ?...

Can social media be regulated? http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/MeasurementMatters/~3/eU81_6bwGyU/post.aspx Fri, 03 Sep 2010 19:11:33 +0000 Measurement Matters Social Media News Publishing digg Content deliver http://www.britishblogs.co.uk/theme/social-media-twitter-were-jumping-invigorated-digg-explaining-policy/ Britain’s Advertising Standards Agency (ASA) certainly think social media can be regulated, having today announced that online content from the UK will be subject to the same regulation as that of other media. Interestingly the extended regulation is also attempting to monitor...
