Although BlackBerry Torch’s pricing on major carriers in the US and Canada have been public from some time, but there was no such scoop for its UK-counterpart. Torch’s carrier in the UK, Vodafone, largely remained mum on this issue. However, the good people at BBLeaks have managed to snag some Vodafone price sheets. The plans are typically one to two years along and there are quite a few options for picking up the right plan. The floor price for the data plans has been set at £20 which … [visit site to read more]

I was a relatively early adopter of the Kindle, and although I didn’t purchase the first generation model, I jumped at the chance to get the second generation when they released the international versions. Now that the Kindle 3 (or “Kindle”, which would be really confusing in a post like this) is out, the UK, along with many other countries around the world, has its own Kindle store, where you can purchase titles in Pound Sterling rather than US Dollars, and save the extra “international delivery charge” that applied on some items.
This is great for new Kindle owners, as by default if you buy it from Amazon UK, it will provide you with access to the UK store. However, international Kindle 2 owners are still stuck with the US store on their devices. Although...
Rumours that Kinect was on its way to testers has proved true.
Those lucky people on the Microsoft Beta testing program are starting to receive home deliveries of the Kinect, plus an automatic update to their Xbox ahead of its official release in November. No surprises then that the guys over at engadget have already gotten hold of leaked images of the camera peripheral tucked inside its packaging.
We expect to see some early ‘unofficial’ reviews and rumours in the coming days from … [visit site to read more]

Original post Urbanears Review – Medis Earphones published on Digitpedia which writes about cool gadgets and electricals to buy.
Urbanears are a Scandinavian company who create some cool looking headphones, I’ve been fortunate enough to test a pair out for a week and here are my thoughts.
I have been sent a pair of black ‘Medis’ earphones. And I have a black iPod Nano, so for me they make a great pair looking very cool, much better then with my normal Apple earphones.
Materials And Feel
All aspects of the earphones feel very well made, with good quality materials. The cord is actually a bit like shoe lace, that makes it sound bad, but it is actually a great thing, very cool look and feel instead of the usual plastic feeling cord. The actual part you put into your...

I like the promise that Pico Projectors make. Being able to take a small projector with you easily and have that projector run on batteries to give presentations or watch content on a larger screen is a very nice thing. The reality is that the technology of today isn’t there to make a pocket projector work for most people.
Toshiba has unveiled a new pocket projector called the Lumileo P100. The little projector has the same basic flaw all of its kind do – poor brightness. The P100 has a mere 14 lumens and tells you a dark room in required to get the 65-inch image it can throw. It has a contrast ratio of 200:1.
Inputs include RCA and VGA and the projector runs from a rechargeable battery. The P100 measures 116 x 50 x 18mm and weighs 96g with the battery installed. The sound...

Being rich would bring a whole new set of life problems that those of us that are not rich would like to try and solve. If you are loaded and collect expensive watches, you might want to protect them and keep them wound up without having to slum it and wind the things yourself.
The perfect thing would be the new Chronos Safe from Brown Safe Manufacturing. The thing has several ways the insides can be configured including one with a sweet rotating watch gallery and self-winding mechanisms. The safe also has a very robust security system.
The safe uses fingerprint biometric sensors, GPS anti-theft system that interacts with a home automation system and more. The outside of the safe if covered with military-grade ballistic armor too. I don’t even want to know what this would cost.

Scientists say they've finally discovered science behind why men are able to kick a football harder than women.Using 10 video cameras, 21 retroreflective markers and 16 electrodes researchers monitored what happens when men and women kick a ball. They discovered significant differences in knee alignment and muscle activation between men and women, giving men more power.Male players apparently activate the hip flexors in their kicking leg and the hip abductors in their supporting leg more than females.Next up the researchers will study throwing like a girl and investigate whether their dad can indeed beat up your dad.
It's said the bone and muscle differences also mean female footballers are more likely to suffer injury."Activation of the hip abductors may help protect players...

Sales of ‘smartbooks’ category (i.e. like the iPad) are expected to grow from 3.65 million in 2010 to nearly 50 million in 2014, or over 50% of all embedded device sales according to the latest forecasts from Informa Telecoms & Media.
The losers are dedicated e-readers, the winners: multifunctional portable devices like the iPad and Android-driven Samsung Galaxy Tab.
Their reasoning with this conclusion is that E-book content is now available on most multifunctional devices like mobiles and tablets and work “well enough” as book readers, while having other functions.
Smaller e-reader players experiencing problems is griwing longer, like Skiff, iRex and Plastic Logic.
Informa expects mobile broadband e-reader sales will peak at 14 million units in 2013,...

ViewSonic is launching a few tablet computers. One of them is the ViewPad 7. The ViewPad 7 is an Android based tablet that will be launching this year from what we understand.
As well as creating the ViewPad 7, ViewSonic is also creating the ViewPad 100 that will be capable of dual-booting with both Android and Windows 7.
The ViewPad 100 has a 10 inch screen which has a resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels. The screen is multitouch but only with a couple of points although it is capacitive touch.
The ViewPad 100 runs an Intel Atom N455 processor and has 1GB of DDR3 memory. With these specs it puts it on par with many Windows based netbooks.
The idea behind the dual booting system is that it allows you to have quick access to email and the internet with Android while the...

Taking their cue from your average plant/tree leaf, scientists at MIT have successfully created a synthetic chloroplast that may one day be used on solar cells.
While it won’t revolutionize green energy at the moment, the breakthrough showed enough promise to merit further testing that will increase is efficiency. Take note, as we mentioned the process involved is no different from how a harmless plant sustains itself despite constant UV exposure.
If you think this is all beyond your grasp, fear not because we’ll bother explaining how it works. You start with different molecules that form the chloroplast. These include carbon nanotubes and synthetic phospholipids. The resulting compounds forms a structure well suited for absorbing solar energy.
However once exposed to a surfactant,...

Folders is another feature wanted by many. Folders also works the same was as the iPhone/iPod touch running iOS 4 in that you drag 1 icon on to another to create a folder.
Although iOS 4.2 will be a good...

Earlier this week Viewsonic announced their first tablet computer to run Google’s Android OS, the Viewsonic ViewPad 7. Now it seems that Viewsonic has launched another tablet that will run Android, the Viewsonic ViewPad 100, and as well as Android it will come with Windows 7.

The battle for TV media streaming is officially heating up with the release of the HD Theater 300. If you simply don’t have the patience to wait for Boxee Box or are put off by the Apple TV, then take the middle road and settle on SageTV’s latest.
A quick glance reveals what it lacks in the looks department is compensated for by its functionality. Though if it were up to us, we think that anyone who doesn’t know what the HD Theater 300 is for will mistake it for one of those old-school dial-up modems.
Just to cover the hardware side now, the new device packs HDMI 1.3 and can stream video from all your favorite online haunts on your TV supported by Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD/MA sound.
It’s also compatible with a wireless network thanks to an optional wireless adapter. Users are also...

Sharp is launching a number of devices with glasses free 3D screens over the next few months. The new range of concept products had screens ranging from 3 inches to 10 inches in size.
One particular was the mobile phone pictured above that has a 3D screen on the front as well as a couple of cameras on the back allowing it to capture 3D images whilst on the move.
It is expected that the screen will work like those of the Nintendo 3DS which requires users hold the device in a certain place in front of them to get the 3D effect to be visible.
Two other devices were also mentioned with one being a 3.8 inch screened device and another having a screen 10.1 inches in size.

Originally posted on Vox, 2 Nov 2006During the last four days I've been attending the IGF conference in Athens, Greece organised by the United Nations to discuss the future of the internet. Sadly, however, I wasn't there in person but was an on-line attendee. There are, however, benefits to this like not having to queue for lunch or coffee (I can retrieve it while 'in the room') or, indeed, having to get out of bed in order to be in the main conference room and get a question put to the panel! Instead of sitting on an uncomfortable chair I am in my big comfy swivel one at home watching the proceedings via a full-screen video stream @ 331k with concurrent translation when I need it. I've also got access to an IRC-like chatroom where there are other remote participants plus some people in...

Choosing your Digital audio work station (DAW)
In my previous article “M-Audio Fast Track Ultra” I said I would talk to you about DAW’s or a Digital Audio Work Station. These are programs or software that you have to purchase to use on your computer. A Digital audio work station is a necessity for any home studio as it’s the program that records your music from your audio interface or mixer. Many won’t want to spend the money to get a recording program, so they will settle for Audacity which is a free windows program that records, this will work but it doesn’t offer anything else on it it is strictly an audio recorder.
I recommend everyone to purchase...

This week: Apple unveils new social network Ping Advertising Age's top seven brand stories of the week Voice check in for FoursquareApple unveils new social network PingApplehas launched Ping which is “sort of like Facebook and Twitter meet iTunes” according to Steve Jobs. Google’s networks haven’t always been that successful, Buzz hasn’t really caught on and we recently said goodbye to Wave. Apple is the latest major player to try their hand. As a music based network Ping threatens the supremacy of MySpace which is now focused heavily on music and artistic content after losing out to Facebook as amore general social network. The potential for Ping is huge. So you wouldn't want to be the apparatchik at Zimbabwe's State House explaining to the president how a music video that lampoons him as a chicken is threatening to go viral.A latex puppet of Mugabe, redolent of 80s TV satire Spitting Image, is the star of a slick video by multinational African group Freshlyground, best known for their collaboration with Shakira on the official World Cup song Waka Waka (This Time for Africa). The song, Chicken for Change, has a bouncy and upbeat feel that belies its serious political message. The video depicts an aloof Mugabe riding in the back of a chauffeur-driven presidential...

Expansys has revealed the Samsung Galaxy Tab price as being £679.99. This price tag is for the 16GB model of the new Samsung tablet. It currently has a launch date October 12.
It isn't clear if these price points are correct. When compared to the iPad the same 3G 16GB model costs £529 which makes it quite a bit cheaper than the Samsung offering.
Samsung has confirmed to Engadget that no pricing has been made available yet and indicates that any prices revealed on sites are just speculation.
As for pricing in Germany, O2 has announced that the price for the Galaxy Tab will be €759 which will be a €99 deposit followed by €27.50/month for 24 months.
We'll announce when all the pricing details are made official.

If you need some portable storage that has to be tiny then here’s something for you.
Personally I use a Sony Micro Vault.
LaCie have just outed their new MosKeyto – I’m not sure if it will suck your blood whilst you sleep but this little USB key is ideal for those times that you want to plug it in and leave it there; whether that be in your Xbox, HTPC, USB equipped in-car stereo or even your laptop.
The MosKeyto is only 20 mm long and leaves a mere 6 mm sticking out once shoved into a USB slot.
It does seem to have a whiff of the EagleTec Nano doesn’t it?
This little thing is available in sizes up to 16 GB – just don’t swallow it
Check out Lacie’s site here.

The people who brought us the bunny who keeps going are going right ahead with the new Qi standard for inductive chargers.
In case you’ve fallen behind news of this minor revolution in battery charging, inductive technology spares your smartphone intrusive cables and wires by juicing it up using a specific frequency.
The much hyped Qi standard seeks to harmonize all inductive chargers so that a BlackBerry can chill right next to a Galaxy S and an iPhone while they charge on a rectangular inductive plate. At least this is the kind of universality Energizer and the Wireless Power Consortium want to achieve in the coming years.
What Energizer have got in store for us this October is a sleek charging station that can power two devices at the same time. Since Qi technology is still...

Apple’s latest wave of new iPods and a re-iteration of Apple TV are ‘cool’ from a consumer’s perspective (ok, maybe not the new Apple TV which is once again a half-hearted product), but its movement into the social media space with Ping, a music focused social networking service, has the potential to impact the media market in a vastly different way.
Analyst firm Frost and Sullivan makes that point in a research note today. It says Ping probably won’t affect Facebook but may affect MySpace, which has a heavy music focus and is already on the ropes.
But it also suggests to me that while iTunes might make a nice music focused social network along the lines of how Spotify now has social features, it’s your iTunes account that could become the core of a...
