Sharp Aquos Quattron TV Brings in Yellow Fourth Pixel – RGBY via GadgetyNews.com March 10th, 2010 at 23:43

image I was 31 floors up in Centre Point on Tuesday to witness Sharp’s new line of televisions which, for the first time in tele history, is rocking a fourth, yellow, sub pixel joining its red, green, and blue buddies. Sharp is waiting before joining the possible ‘fad’ of 3D and is instead looking to make large screen TV’s more economical (40% less power used compared with other LCD’s), brighter, ’sharp’er and with a larger pallet. “The revolutionary new four colour technology enables billions of colours to be displayed, providing brighter video gaming, clearer sports viewing and sharper action enjoyment”, says the company. Sharp actually played around with introducing white and cyan pixels but the yellow pixels had the best...

Microsoft Project Pink Mobiles Made Official via GadgetyNews.com February 13th, 2010 at 18:05

image The MWC is a matter of hours away and most eyes will be on what Microsoft will be bring to parade on centre-stage. Windows Phone 7 is almost a given but it seems that the Project Pink phone, Sharp’s ‘Turtle’, as been FCC’d (Federal Communications Commission). The diagram on the right for model PB10ZU shows more than a passing resemblance to the Turtle pic I posted about in September. According to the paperwork the PB10ZU will be loaded with dual-band CDMA, EVDO, Bluetooth and WiFi connectivity. Engadget spotted that the FCC filing’s details are being withheld until March 29. That’s just after the potential Zune Phone unveiling that is rumoured to take place at the CTIA conference in Vegas. Expect more about lots of other new phones over the coming...

Sharp unveils solar-powered mobile via Coolest Gadgets February 1st, 2010 at 02:35

image There is nothing more frustrating that talking on the phone only to have the line cut off simply because you ran out of juice. Sharp hopes to change that by offering an alternative method to keep your cellphone juiced up at all times, thanks to the Sharp SH6230C which will hit the Chinese market later this February. It is the first solar-powered cellphone by Sharp for the overseas market, boasting Sharp’s proprietary solar cell module alongside a generous 2.9″ LCD display and a 5-megapixel autofocus camera. The solar panel is located on the back of the handset, so you can always leave it by your window at the office to keep it primed for long conversations. No idea on its pricing though, but it is nice to see companies taking a more eco-friendly approach in their products....

Sharp’s New AQUOS LED TV via Mighty Gadget Blog: The latest technology news & reviews in the UK January 18th, 2010 at 14:17

image Unveiled at CES last week Sharp are coming out with a new line of 1.6”deep AQUOS LED TVs and boy do they look good. As you all know we all love a good TV at Mighty Gadget and these do indeed look the bee’s knees as most LED’s do. What makes them different you might ask? Standard screens work as we all know with a red green and blue pixel. These add a fourth pixel, a yellow one, which improves the colours one can see on a screen.   The LC-LE810E will come in 3 sizes, 32”, 40” and 46” and will support 1080p output. The next model up is the LC-LE820 which is pretty much the same only coming in the larger 40”, 46” and 60”. The daddy of the series is the LC-LE920E. Again this comes in 40”,46” and 60” but has extras!! It has Aquos Motion 240Hz to reduce on motion...

Pink Pure and Turtle Pictures Escape From Microsoft via GadgetyNews.com September 24th, 2009 at 13:29

image You know that the first details broke of the Microsoft-backed phones earlier this week. Today you get to see the real things! What you get is the Moto/Palm styled ‘Turtle’ and the ‘Pure’ is the one that appears to share heritage with the Google G1. As already stated both handsets will be made by Sharp who, incedentally, also make the hardware for the Sidekick handset. The pics seem to be the only new news apart from the candybar Pure has a slidey out keypad and the fact that these phones seem to have a focus on the ‘youth’ market (more Sidekick leanings) and there’s whispers of a related app store and that Zune functionality. Thing is – the Sidekick is more popular stateside and Microsoft has said a huge no to the Zune coming to the UK. So...

Pure Pink Turtles – New Microsoft+Sharp Smartphones via GadgetyNews.com September 21st, 2009 at 14:40

image It’s been a tad quiet out there in Microsoft Pink land seeing as the Zune has been capturing most of the headlines. But – now 9to5Mac of all places claims to have advanced word of what Microsoft Pink actually is…… Apparently Redmond HQ will be busting out a pair of smartphones, with the help of subsidiary – Danger. This also means that instead of the HTC gear that was originally hinted at the hardware will be thanks to Sharp – Both phones could be branded as “Microsoft+Sharp”. As you might expect, the two Microsoft Pink phones will take different form factors: one the “Turtle”, will be kinda like the Motorola QA1 pictured and the “Pure” will be more like a regular candybar slider. These phones are said to debut at CES in January....

Eight questions Labour (and their LD chums) can’t answer via Hunter and Shooter July 9th, 2009 at 21:30

Do they only allow 'thick' people to scrutinise the Council? If Alan really is 'thick', why have they allowed him to be a councillor for 18 years? Do they only allow 'thick' people to sit on the Council? If Alan really is 'thick', why did allow him to become Mayor not only once, but twice? New Sharp Aquos LE700 series LED backlit TVs via GadgetLite - Latest gadgets and technology news July 8th, 2009 at 12:22

image Readers: Take part in our latest free gadget giveaway: HDMI cable and more! New Sharp Aquos LE700 series LED backlit TVs Sharp has introduced its LE700 series LED TVs, using edge-lit LED backlight technology instead of CCFL. Unlike Sony, Samsung, Toshiba and Vizio, Sharp’s LE700 series have no local dimming function. The lack of local dimming means that, in tests, the blacks in bright scenes won’t be on par with the best of those TVs above. The Sharp LE700 series lack both video streaming and use of Yahoo’s widget platform for services such as Amazon or Flickr. More information after the break… Sharp explained that their X-Gen panel with 10-bit processing lets them align the pixels in an impressive ways for good black levels. However, Sharp promises local...

UK and Kenya- British and Kenya army medical exercise via FCO Bloggers: Global conversations June 4th, 2009 at 11:45

I've always had great respect for army medics, and it was increased on a trip I made earlier this week.  I was in Baringo district, seeing at first hand some of the British Army's work, jointly with the Kenyan army and Ministry of Health,  in providing immunisations and primary healthcare (including dental care) to Kenyans whom the state's medical services find difficult to reach.  It's the fourteenth year they have done this annual exercise, covering some of the country's more remote areas.  When we dropped in to see them they had already seen over 13,000 people, and were about half way through the exercise.  Of course, initiatives like this don't resolve the underlying issues of provision of healthcare in rural areas, but I was glad to see that the Army had...

Sharp Mirumo 934SH with “memory LCD” via Mighty Gadget Blog: The latest technology news & reviews in the UK May 19th, 2009 at 09:18

image Unfortunately this won’t likely be seen anywhere but Japan, but Sharpe a releasing the mirumo 934SH for SoftBank (Japanese Telecom company). The 934SH features a 3-inch external display that can display time, date, weather, news but manages to only consume 5% five per cent of the power used by previous external displays. Sharp is coining this display as "memory LCD" which makes it sound like E-Ink but according to one of the commenter's on Engadget, who apparently emailed the tip in, the display is actually OLED and the memory part comes from the fact the external display can only show one of 38 different screens at one time, and the hardware remembers which of those 38 you use most. The phone also comes with an 8 megapixel camera, a waterproof shell, and a UV sensor. Pretty...

Sharp Mebius PC-NJ0A - The Netbook With Multi-Purpose Trackpad LCD Screen [video action] via GadgetyNews.com April 21st, 2009 at 10:43

image You may or may not be aware of Sharp’s lovely looking new netbook, the Mebius PC-NJ70A. What makes this netbook stand out from the crowd is the 854 x 480 resolution LCD that Sharp has decided to sling in where the track pad should be. The screen automatically adjusts brightness based on surrounding light and work as a secondary display for things like adjusting an equalizer with your grubby mits. Those lovelies over at Akihabara News have generously shared a video whilst they were at the unveiling of Sharp’s Mebius netbook. Check the vid below Granted the icons and apps shown aren’t as funky as you’d expect but I’m digging the way things seem to be moving - having a dual-purpose trackpad and secondary display / widget panel. The phone comes with a 5.2 megapixel camera, along with GPS, HSDPA, accelerometer, bluetooth, a fascinating magnetic compass and because it’s going to be used in Japan, on-board support for wireless payment systems -very neat! Sharp, which offers Aquos LCD TVs, plans to turn the liquid crystal display factory, which would be the world’s largest, into a joint venture, with the Osaka-based company owning 66 per cent and Sony taking the remainder. Besides LCD panels, the joint venture will also produce LCD modules, which are display panels equipped with...
