Sharp’s Sexy 3D Blu-ray Player BD-HP90S via GadgetyNews.com September 2nd, 2010 at 15:00

image This little beauty has caught my eye mainly because it looks so good. There’s going to be plenty-many 3D Blu-ray players so they’re going to have to do something to stand out from the crowd. Sharp’s BD-HP90S ticks the boxes for looks – it’s shiny, thin and doesn’t just rely on its sexiness. The Sharp BD-HP90S will gladly sling out 3D and 2D Blu-ray pics all day long and hooks up to BD-Live content via its in-built wi-fi. Looking to dish out media from other devices? That’s where the front USB socket comes in – no need to go scrabbling round the back. The lovely LED indicators to tell you if it’s playing in 3D or the enhanced Aquos “Pure Mode”. The Sharp BD-HP90S will cost you £379.99 and goes on sale in November...

Sharp 3D Smartphone (Without 3D Glasses) In Development For 2010 Release via Technology Blog (UK), Hi-Tech Gadgets & Gaming - Zath! August 8th, 2010 at 17:16

image We have already seen Nintendo’s plans for the 3DS, and are initially quite impressed by the idea of mobile 3D devices, and now Sharp are looking to jump on to the bandwagon early and launch their own 3D smart phone by the end of the year. But don’t fret; you won’t need to carry a pair of ridiculous 3D specs around with you, as these devices will be 3D without glasses. A statement from Sharp suggests that the device will most likely feature a 3D camera, though they didn’t give any indication of which OS will appear on the phone – it would be be interesting to see what apps people could come up with if it ran on the Android platform! The 3D technology to be used in the mobile phone has been in existence a while, but is only really for use on small displays, so making...

Sharp Releasing 3D Mobile Phone by Christmas 2010 via GadgetyNews.com August 4th, 2010 at 14:06

image Sharp’s march into 3D hasn’t slowed down any and it’s just confirmed that a 3D phone is on the cards and should be on shelves across the planet by the end of 2010 – in time for Christmas lists? As you may remember – Sharp supplied the glasses-free 3D screens to Nintendo for the 3DS. Unfortunately Sharp also provided panels for the extremely short-lived Microsoft Kin so they have something to prove. According to a Sharp spokeswoman, the 3D phone will also be boasting a 3D camera round back.  I’m hoping that it will snap 3D photo’s and video This is all very exciting but what I need to know is what operating system will this 3D wonder be running? Let me know what you think – will it be Android, WinMo or something more...

AT&T launches Sharp FX via GadgetLite - Latest gadgets and technology news July 21st, 2010 at 17:44

image All AT&T users will be pleased to hear that new phone from Sharp will be added to the carrier’s lineup. The latest addition will have AT&T’s Mobile TV service included. Besides Mobile TV service, Sharp FX will have plenty of multimedia features to offer. However, rather annoyingly (and unlike Sharp) it appears to have a poor, low res camera making you think as to what AT&T actually wants the phone to offer its users apart from being just a phone and watching TV. Sharp FX is a 3-inch touchscreen display phone that is using 400 x 240 pixel resolution. Besides that, this phone comes with QWERTY keyboard and with 2-megapixel camera and camcorder. Phone comes with 80 MB of internal storage space but it can be easily expanded by using  microSD /...

Sharp Bringing Four Pixel TV into Third Dimension – UK Joins Party via GadgetyNews.com June 3rd, 2010 at 14:56

image Remember the Sharp Quattron? The one rocking an extra yellow pixel? Well, after me saying that they were shunning 3D in favour of a more colourful pic they’ve announced that their Quattron 3DTVs and 3D Blu-ray boxes are set for “a global launch”. Not only that they’ve mentioned Blighty! “Sharp’s 3D Quattron range will be presented in early September at IFA 2010 and will be available in the UK towards the end of the year.” Are you still thinking whether getting a 3D gogglebox is worthwhile just yet? Cell phone making company Sharp has added a newly launched solar cell phone namely Sharp SH007 to its band of cell phones. This newly launched device comes with new solar panel that will be able to soak enough juice from sun’s heat so that it can run for plenty of hours. image The tablet race has been going on for a while and there is now a new player in it. This one comes from Sharp and unlike competitors it uses Ubuntu Linux, which makes it so special. It seems strange that tablet comes with Ubuntu installed, but that might be a good thing for all the Linux users out there. This tablet named NetWalker PC-T1 is using Ubuntu 9.04 Linux ARM and it comes with all other software pre installed, such as OpenOffice.ord, Firefox, Thunderbird and Flash Lite. That’s about the software that its using, but what about hardware specifications? Net Walker PC-T1 has decent specifications which will satisfy all your needs. It uses FreeScale i.MX515 processor, 512MB RAM and 8GB flash storage, but for some reason only 1.5 GB is usable. Now, it wouldn’t be...

Microsoft Pink Phones Being Outed on Monday via GadgetyNews.com April 6th, 2010 at 14:28

image pics from Gizmodo Here we go again with a strategy that used to be seen utilised in Formula 1 pit stops. Microsoft are to stage an event scheduled to take place on April 12 – a mere four days after Apple unveils its new iPhone 4.0 OS. It sounds like this will be the unveiling of two new social networking ‘Pink’ handsets that are codenamed ‘Pure’ and ‘Turtle’. The handsets are aimed to be down with the kids with a keen focus on Facebook, Twitter and Zune support to name but a few. Both of these phones were sketched by the same pens that brought us the T-Mobile Sidekick – Danger. Keeping with the Sidekick theme it looks like Sharp, who nailed the Sidekick together will also be manufacturing the Pinkies – remember...

Sharp 3D Screens for Handhelds Unveiled. Nintendo 3DS Buying? via GadgetyNews.com April 2nd, 2010 at 22:28

image It does look like 3D is getting a huge push. The latest films have all been in 3D, 3D TV’s are now available and even Google StreetView has a 3D option – you’ve seen the little fella with the glasses right? Have a look at this article and spot him on the right-hand side of the map. Just roll you mouse pointer over him Now it looks like 3D will be coming to pocket-sized gadgety things in the next 12 months after Sharp unveiled the company’s new technology at an event in Tokyo. The panel manufacturer demonstrated a glassesless 3D solution on a 3.4 inch device with live images of a model thrusting her hands out towards the viewer. We’ve seen 3D equipped mobile phones already but this screen uses a parallax barrier method of 3D stereoscopy....

Sharp Aquos Quattron TV Brings in Yellow Fourth Pixel – RGBY via GadgetyNews.com March 10th, 2010 at 23:43

image I was 31 floors up in Centre Point on Tuesday to witness Sharp’s new line of televisions which, for the first time in tele history, is rocking a fourth, yellow, sub pixel joining its red, green, and blue buddies. Sharp is waiting before joining the possible ‘fad’ of 3D and is instead looking to make large screen TV’s more economical (40% less power used compared with other LCD’s), brighter, ’sharp’er and with a larger pallet. “The revolutionary new four colour technology enables billions of colours to be displayed, providing brighter video gaming, clearer sports viewing and sharper action enjoyment”, says the company. Sharp actually played around with introducing white and cyan pixels but the yellow pixels had the best...

Microsoft Project Pink Mobiles Made Official via GadgetyNews.com February 13th, 2010 at 18:05

image The MWC is a matter of hours away and most eyes will be on what Microsoft will be bring to parade on centre-stage. Windows Phone 7 is almost a given but it seems that the Project Pink phone, Sharp’s ‘Turtle’, as been FCC’d (Federal Communications Commission). The diagram on the right for model PB10ZU shows more than a passing resemblance to the Turtle pic I posted about in September. According to the paperwork the PB10ZU will be loaded with dual-band CDMA, EVDO, Bluetooth and WiFi connectivity. Engadget spotted that the FCC filing’s details are being withheld until March 29. That’s just after the potential Zune Phone unveiling that is rumoured to take place at the CTIA conference in Vegas. Expect more about lots of other new phones over the coming...

Sharp unveils solar-powered mobile via Coolest Gadgets February 1st, 2010 at 02:35

image There is nothing more frustrating that talking on the phone only to have the line cut off simply because you ran out of juice. Sharp hopes to change that by offering an alternative method to keep your cellphone juiced up at all times, thanks to the Sharp SH6230C which will hit the Chinese market later this February. It is the first solar-powered cellphone by Sharp for the overseas market, boasting Sharp’s proprietary solar cell module alongside a generous 2.9″ LCD display and a 5-megapixel autofocus camera. The solar panel is located on the back of the handset, so you can always leave it by your window at the office to keep it primed for long conversations. No idea on its pricing though, but it is nice to see companies taking a more eco-friendly approach in their products....

Sharp’s New AQUOS LED TV via Mighty Gadget Blog: The latest technology news & reviews in the UK January 18th, 2010 at 14:17

image Unveiled at CES last week Sharp are coming out with a new line of 1.6”deep AQUOS LED TVs and boy do they look good. As you all know we all love a good TV at Mighty Gadget and these do indeed look the bee’s knees as most LED’s do. What makes them different you might ask? Standard screens work as we all know with a red green and blue pixel. These add a fourth pixel, a yellow one, which improves the colours one can see on a screen.   The LC-LE810E will come in 3 sizes, 32”, 40” and 46” and will support 1080p output. The next model up is the LC-LE820 which is pretty much the same only coming in the larger 40”, 46” and 60”. The daddy of the series is the LC-LE920E. Again this comes in 40”,46” and 60” but has extras!! It has Aquos Motion 240Hz to reduce on motion...

Pink Pure and Turtle Pictures Escape From Microsoft via GadgetyNews.com September 24th, 2009 at 13:29

image You know that the first details broke of the Microsoft-backed phones earlier this week. Today you get to see the real things! What you get is the Moto/Palm styled ‘Turtle’ and the ‘Pure’ is the one that appears to share heritage with the Google G1. As already stated both handsets will be made by Sharp who, incedentally, also make the hardware for the Sidekick handset. The pics seem to be the only new news apart from the candybar Pure has a slidey out keypad and the fact that these phones seem to have a focus on the ‘youth’ market (more Sidekick leanings) and there’s whispers of a related app store and that Zune functionality. Thing is – the Sidekick is more popular stateside and Microsoft has said a huge no to the Zune coming to the UK. So...

Pure Pink Turtles – New Microsoft+Sharp Smartphones via GadgetyNews.com September 21st, 2009 at 14:40

image It’s been a tad quiet out there in Microsoft Pink land seeing as the Zune has been capturing most of the headlines. But – now 9to5Mac of all places claims to have advanced word of what Microsoft Pink actually is…… Apparently Redmond HQ will be busting out a pair of smartphones, with the help of subsidiary – Danger. This also means that instead of the HTC gear that was originally hinted at the hardware will be thanks to Sharp – Both phones could be branded as “Microsoft+Sharp”. As you might expect, the two Microsoft Pink phones will take different form factors: one the “Turtle”, will be kinda like the Motorola QA1 pictured and the “Pure” will be more like a regular candybar slider. These phones are said to debut at CES in January....

New Sharp Aquos LE700 series LED backlit TVs Sharp has introduced its LE700 series LED TVs, using edge-lit LED backlight technology instead of CCFL. Unlike Sony, Samsung, Toshiba and Vizio, Sharp’s LE700 series have no local dimming function. The lack of local dimming means that, in tests, the blacks in bright scenes won’t be on par with the best of those TVs above. The Sharp LE700 series lack both video streaming and use of Yahoo’s widget platform for services such as Amazon or Flickr. More information after the break… Sharp explained that their X-Gen panel with 10-bit processing lets them align the pixels in an impressive ways for good black levels. UK and Kenya- British and Kenya army medical exercise via FCO Bloggers: Global conversations June 4th, 2009 at 11:45

I've always had great respect for army medics, and it was increased on a trip I made earlier this week.  I was in Baringo district, seeing at first hand some of the British Army's work, jointly with the Kenyan army and Ministry of Health,  in providing immunisations and primary healthcare (including dental care) to Kenyans whom the state's medical services find difficult to reach.  It's the fourteenth year they have done this annual exercise, covering some of the country's more remote areas.  When we dropped in to see them they had already seen over 13,000 people, and were about half way through the exercise.  Of course, initiatives like this don't resolve the underlying issues of provision of healthcare in rural areas, but I was glad to see that the Army had...

Sharp Mirumo 934SH with “memory LCD” via Mighty Gadget Blog: The latest technology news & reviews in the UK May 19th, 2009 at 09:18

image Unfortunately this won’t likely be seen anywhere but Japan, but Sharpe a releasing the mirumo 934SH for SoftBank (Japanese Telecom company). The 934SH features a 3-inch external display that can display time, date, weather, news but manages to only consume 5% five per cent of the power used by previous external displays. Sharp is coining this display as "memory LCD" which makes it sound like E-Ink but according to one of the commenter's on Engadget, who apparently emailed the tip in, the display is actually OLED and the memory part comes from the fact the external display can only show one of 38 different screens at one time, and the hardware remembers which of those 38 you use most. The phone also comes with an 8 megapixel camera, a waterproof shell, and a UV sensor. Pretty...

image You may or may not be aware of Sharp’s lovely looking new netbook, the Mebius PC-NJ70A. What makes this netbook stand out from the crowd is the 854 x 480 resolution LCD that Sharp has decided to sling in where the track pad should be. The screen automatically adjusts brightness based on surrounding light and work as a secondary display for things like adjusting an equalizer with your grubby mits. Those lovelies over at Akihabara News have generously shared a video whilst they were at the unveiling of Sharp’s Mebius netbook. Check the vid below Granted the icons and apps shown aren’t as funky as you’d expect but I’m digging the way things seem to be moving - having a dual-purpose trackpad and secondary display / widget panel. Unfortunately the rest of the...
