LaCie MosKeyto – Tiny USB Flash Memory Stick via GadgetyNews.com September 3rd, 2010 at 13:24

image If you need some portable storage that has to be tiny then here’s something for you. Personally I use a Sony Micro Vault. LaCie have just outed their new MosKeyto – I’m not sure if it will suck your blood whilst you sleep but this little USB key is ideal for those times that you want to plug it in and leave it there; whether that be in your Xbox, HTPC, USB equipped in-car stereo or even your laptop. The MosKeyto is only 20 mm long and leaves a mere 6 mm sticking out once shoved into a USB slot. It does seem to have a whiff of the EagleTec Nano doesn’t it? This little thing is available in sizes up to 16 GB – just don’t swallow it Check out Lacie’s site here. Tweet This! Share this on Facebook Post...

Sharp’s Sexy 3D Blu-ray Player BD-HP90S via GadgetyNews.com September 2nd, 2010 at 15:00

image This little beauty has caught my eye mainly because it looks so good. There’s going to be plenty-many 3D Blu-ray players so they’re going to have to do something to stand out from the crowd. Sharp’s BD-HP90S ticks the boxes for looks – it’s shiny, thin and doesn’t just rely on its sexiness. The Sharp BD-HP90S will gladly sling out 3D and 2D Blu-ray pics all day long and hooks up to BD-Live content via its in-built wi-fi. Looking to dish out media from other devices? That’s where the front USB socket comes in – no need to go scrabbling round the back. The lovely LED indicators to tell you if it’s playing in 3D or the enhanced Aquos “Pure Mode”. The Sharp BD-HP90S will cost you £379.99 and goes on sale in November...

iPod Nano 6 Gets Touchy – Still Cute via GadgetyNews.com September 1st, 2010 at 23:13

image Apple’s little iPod Nano has been given a major Jobsing today at Apple’s ‘Special Event’ at its headquarters today. In order for the shrunken Nano to be usable to the sausage-fingered they’ve done away with the click wheel and replaced the controls with a rather neat looking multitouch loving screen – not a million miles away from this actually. The Nano’s update has taken the previously small device in to the land of the Shuffle so much so that it gets its own Shuffle-esq clip so it can be slipped onto your collar, tie or bra-strap. This is what Steve Jobs means when he gets a little crazy as he stated on stage “This year we’ve gone wild”. Easy tiger! That cool looking multitouch user interface can be orientated via two-finger rotation...

image Jarre Technologies has officially launched AeroSystem One today at the IFA. Jarre Technologies was founded in 2005 by none-other-than electronic music pioneer Jean Michel Jarre. His love of merging sound and vision technology has been put to service the creation of a range of high-end, “affordable2 and aesthetic home-entertainment products. AeroSystem is the audio range and the first release has been imaginatively dubbed AeroSystem One: an iPhone and iPod compatible, HD multi-directional sound tower equipped with a full spectrum speaker, delivering stereophonic sound from a single multi-axial point. iControlPad iPhone Gaming Controller out Soon! via GadgetyNews.com August 27th, 2010 at 14:42

image This is not the first picture of a gaming controller for the iPhone. Neither is it the first picture of the iControlPad – although it looked a lot different back then. But all of this has been filed in the ‘vapour-ware’ drawer as nothing has materialised apart from good ideas. Well – if you’re getting cheesed-off with having to use your iPhone’s touchscreen for games and are in desperate need of some proper portable gamepad geekahol – the iControlPad will actually be with you soon! For those that have been following the iControlPad’s development you’ll know that it has been worked on for a year or so. Your iPhone slips in between two side clips that hold the gamepad below the phone in landscape mode – just like a...

Apple iPod Event – September 1st via GadgetyNews.com August 26th, 2010 at 11:09

image There’s been much guessing as to when this would happen but Apple has finally released an invitation to UK journo types offering them the chance to join in a music-themed event next Wednesday, 1 September. The event, which is a week ahead of the rumoured date of 7 September, will kick off at 6pm on Wednesday. UK folk will get to watch a live link from the event in California which wil reveal just what the company has in store. Now, unless Apple are actually releasing a branded acoustic guitar, I reckon it’s a safe bet that the even will be iPod-based. I’m expecting it’ll be a new iPod Touch and Nano being unveiled but there is a chance that there could be announcements regarding iTunes launching in the cloud and possibly that iTV (Apple TV). What...

New iPod Touch, iPad Mini, Apple iTV or Smart Bike Spotted in iOS 4.1 via GadgetyNews.com August 20th, 2010 at 14:51

image OooOooOoO………. it looks like the new iPod touch, a new iPad and a mystery device have been spotted amongst the code of the latest iOS 4.1 beta. We already know to expect the annual iPod refresh but there’s rumours aplenty of a 7-inch iPad as well as an iOS-powered Apple TV….. could these bits of code hidden in the USB configuration files be definitive proof? The obvious one is for the new iPod touch which has the code “iPod 4.1”. That should point to a redesigned device rather than a mere update of the current iPod touch – everyone is expecting the same Retina screen as the iPhone 4, uprated camera including the addition of a FaceTime lens to bring it in line with the iPhone 4. This is where it all gets more interesteing: “iProd...

Missing Star Wars Scene Shown – Luke Building Lightsaber via GadgetyNews.com August 16th, 2010 at 12:40

image There’s been a couple of noteworthy announcements made over at the Star Wars Celebration V event in Florida. George Lucas has unveiled the news that there will be a full Blu-ray box-set and excitingly has aired a missing scene from Return of the Jedi that shows Luke making his lightsaber a cave on Tatooine! The short section that hit the cutting room floor involved Darth attempting to sweet-talk Luke over to the Dark Side as he does a bit of DIY lightsaber building after loosing his original one when fighting his dad. As well as that great bit of ‘extra’ Star Wars geekery it was revealed by the producer of the first two Star Wars movies, Gary Kurtz, that the original ending for Return of the Jedi was not included in the film that we all know and love....

image Don’t you just hate this when it happens? You hold out til you find the phone for you, you pay your money and sign up to a contract enslaving your soul for 18 months or more and then rumours of a replacement for the handset that you’ve just bought are released. Bugger! Those of you that have just collected your new HTC Desire may want to read a different article. The Android powered Desire HD or ‘Ace’ has found its way online and it seems to shape up quite well. Sorry. The Desire HD packs a 4.3 WVGA capacitive touchscreen with the obligatory 1GHZ Qualcomm processor purring away under the hood. That rather conspicuous camera lens is an 8 megapixel snapper which will happily record 720p HD video. You’ll also get SRS surround sound and auto...

UK Gets Very Own Kindles in Grey Business Suits via GadgetyNews.com July 29th, 2010 at 14:47

image The Kindle is coming to the UK – it’s official! Amazon is treating us with brand spanking new versions of the ebook reader. The pair of Kindles aren’t that scary pricewise either. If you opt for the one loaded with 3G and Wi-Fi it’ll cost you £149 and the Wi-Fi only version will hit you for a reasonable £109. The free 3G connection taken care of by Vodafone and should you take your Brit Kindle (UKindle?) on a trip to foreign parts you’ll be able to instantly browse and download ebooks as long as they have 3G. I reckon that it’s worth that extra £40 compared to the Wi-Fi only version. Especially as the Amazon Web site for pre-ordering states that the new Wi-Fi browsing is “experimental”! Both of these new Kindles wear...

image Yup – weeks without any RIM-based news and then two come along at once! It sounds like the new BlackBerry slider is expected to drop at a joint event with AT&T, who will have dibs on the new phone stateside, in New York on Tuesday. The 9800 will busting BlackBerry OS6, a revamped web browser, touchscreen and full slide-out keyboard. This could be excellent timing for RIM as, if the 9800 is all it’s cracked up to be could have a great reception (pun intended) after the complaints about iPhone 4′s antenna design. “This is an opportunity for RIM to respond, not only on the operating system and browser-side, but equally importantly, that they have a nice smooth operating piece of hardware,” Mackie Research analyst Nick Agostino said. The Magic Trackpad is a larger version of the MacBook Pro touchpad giving you 80% more space on which to pinch and swipe to your hearts content. White iPhone 4 Later This Year via GadgetyNews.com July 23rd, 2010 at 14:51

image Bad news if you’ve been holding out for a white iPhone 4 – you know when Apple said that they’d be available later this month…… Well, now they’ve released another statement saying that the white iPhone 4 has been delayed yet again. Apple have moved the goal-posts and instead of giving potential buyers a month or even a season when to expect their arrival they have simply said “later this year”. White models of Apple’s new iPhone® 4 have continued to be more challenging to manufacture than we originally expected, and as a result they will not be available until later this year. The availability of the more popular iPhone 4 black models is not affected. Apparently the issues are concerning painting the glass. I’ll...

Skies of Glory Creates Ariel Battle Between Android and iPhone via GadgetyNews.com July 21st, 2010 at 14:16

image Challenging your buddies to a gaming battle usually means that they have to use the same kind of machine, or at least operating system. This is more of an issue if we’re talking about a mobile phone game. Well, Skies of Glory hopes to bridge that unfriendly divide ‘tween Android and iPhone gamers. The game’s developer, SGN, has announced the release of the first game to allow play between two different handsets which allows iPhone and Android users to compete live against one another over EDGE, 3G and Wifi. Apple Magic Trackpad, Slate or Pad Brings Multi-touch to Desktops via GadgetyNews.com July 19th, 2010 at 21:30

image If you’ve got used to swiping, pinch-zooming and such but have to resort to general mouse-use when back at your computer things may be about to change – and possibly sooner than you think! It appears that the FCC has just approved a new bluetooth device made by Apple. Everything matches up and it looks like Apple’s got a new trackpad device aimed at desktop computers.  The shortlist of names seems to be Magic Trackpad, Magic Slate, or Magic Pad based on trademark filings and in order to keep it in line with the Magic Mouse naming system. By the looks of things this new device is pretty much a MacBook trackpad without the MacBook bit. It certainly follows the design of Apple’s new style keyboards but with a totally strokable, prodable and clickable...

Acer S1 Crazy Thin HD LCD TV’s That Wont Hurt Your Wallet via GadgetyNews.com July 19th, 2010 at 14:54

image If you fancy getting yourself an extremely thin HD tele with eco-friendly power consumption but would rather avoid the tear inducing price tag usually associated with such a purchase read on Gadgety friends. Acer has produced the world’s thinnest LCD display and it’s gone and shoved them into their new TVs. The new S1 series of LCD TVs (although they’re technically monitors as I can’t spot any speakers, etc) come in the expected glossy black finish and there’s a choice of four models ranging from 18.5-inches to 23-inches. The profile is almost silly – measuring from just 15mm thick to an impossibly thin 13mm! The 21-inch and 23-inch models have full 1080p resolution while the rest have 16:9 HD viewing. image It was only a matter of time but so soon? The iPad only touched down in the UK a coupla months ago and already all manner of v2 tweakage is being chatted about! The most interesting (or annoying if you bought version 1) is that the next iPad will have serious gaming skills as well as an eye-popping screen The rumoured OLED screen would add more depth of colour but I reckon that the LCD Retina display that’s sported by the iPhone 4 would look un-freaking-believable on the iPad. Word on the street is that iPad 2 would have slick enough graphics to challenge the Xbox 360 and if you want more choice as to what size your Apple tablet comes in……. howsabout 5.6 and a 7 inch model? Apparently Compal Electronics have won the order to make the new iPads, which...

Sony 3D Shooting Compact Cameras – WX5 and TX9 via GadgetyNews.com July 11th, 2010 at 19:22

image It looks like the big companies are determined to make 3D a regular part of our digital lives and Sony is sprinkling the 3D fairy-dust over its Cybershot Camera range. In the main pic you get to gawp at the WX5 ( left), TX9 (centre) and T99 (the colourful range over on the right). The WX5 and TX9 are the 3D capable snappers – using what Sony has named 3D Sweep Panorama you are able to take 100 high-speed shots while you sweep the camera from left to right (or right to left I guess) and all that info is stitched together in stereoscopic lovliness so when you plug your Cybershot into your 3D capable tele you get a very impressive picture I reckon, unless you have a very steady hand, using a tripod or similar whilst panning across your chosen vista will improve the...

Tech 21 Bring d3o Protection for iPhone 4 via GadgetyNews.com July 4th, 2010 at 13:38

image If you’re looking for something to protect your recently purchased iPhone 4 why not use d3o impact fabric to cosset it? d3o is an intelligent material that locks its molecules together on impact to absorb the energy of a shock and provide superior protection. Used by extreme sports brands and professional athletes from around the world, d3o offers unique impact protection for your phone. Here’s the science bit… At rest, the molecules inside d3o move freely, making it soft and flexible, while at the point of impact or shock, the molecules lock together to spread and absorb the force, safeguarding your Phone. There’s a couple of cool cases coming up for Apple’s latest that uses that impact cleverness – one is the Bumperish iBand and the...

Puma Phone Jogging to the UK This Month via GadgetyNews.com July 1st, 2010 at 17:42

image Yup, the solar powered sportster from Puma is heading to the UK. If you recall, the Puma Phone has a 2.8in screen and is designed to be used one handed – I’m guessing that leaves your other hand free to hold a bottle of isotonic refreshment or a relay batton. The obvious thing you’ll notice is that the rear of the Puma Phone is covered by a solar panel. Puma says that an hour in the sunshine will give you an extra hour of chatting to your lifestyle coach. As the freakishly sunny weather is not the norm here in Blighty you may be relieved to know that a full battery will give you 5 hours of talktime, 350 hours of standby and up to 140 minutes of video calls. The PP (heheh!) is equipped with a 3.2MP camera that can geotag your sporty snaps paired with a...

iPhone Keyring flipSYNC USB Charger via GadgetyNews.com June 26th, 2010 at 22:01

image I’ve been looking around the interwebs trying to find a better thing than killing the USB sync/charging cable that came with my new iPhone 4. The one I had with my 3G got battered from being shoved in my man bag/gig bag/overnight bag/suitcase/laptop bag – you get the idea. Thankfully Scosche has come up with the flipSYNC USB charger. This natty little gizmo folds down and attaches to your keyring – which also means you’re less likely to pack it and having to send a bulk email to everyone at work asking if anyone has brought their charger in. Compact is not the word from the flipSYNC. When folded away it’s less than 5cm long but unfurled it will offer up 12cm of cable. The 30-pin iPhone / iPod / iPad connector fits into one side of the...

iPhone 4 Disabled by Left Hand Death Grip or Pull up to the Bumper Baby via GadgetyNews.com June 25th, 2010 at 14:03

image Could this have been a planned marketing ploy by Apple? It seems that the new iPhone 4 is trying to weed out all those that answer calls by holding the phone in their left hand. Many reports have hit the interwebs stating that there’s a distinct drop in signal strength when Apple’s new flagship blower is held in the left hand. The problem seems to occur when the iPhone 4 is held in the left hand with the palm covering the lower-left part of the stainless steel band which houses part of the antenna. However, not all iPhone 4 owners have encountered the problem. Steve Jobs responded to a query about the problem from one owner via the Ars Technica website with the advice: “Just avoid holding it in that way.” Nice one Steve, nice one In an official...

Vodafone iPhone 4 not as Cheap as Expected via GadgetyNews.com June 18th, 2010 at 16:07

image Vodafone – why oh why? After an evening of complex maths (well, for me anyhow) basing my findings on your leaked prices to show who was the cheapest operator to get your iPhone 4 from you go and release your official tariffs and iPhone 4 costs – and they don’t match!! NOOOooooooooooooooooo! OK, so your monthly charges are as they were in the leaked item but you’re charging more for the handset. Look at the iPhone 4 on your cheapest, £25 per month contract for example: the 16GB now costs £219 rather than £189 for crying out loud! Check the gallery for the tariffs and pricing info – click once to enlarge and then again to super-size that mo fo I’m going to have to do some more maths now aren’t I?...

UK Networks Reveal iPhone 4 Pricing – It’s Time to See Who Has The Best Deal via GadgetyNews.com June 17th, 2010 at 20:19

image MY HEAD HURTS! I’ve tried looking at the tariff’s and handset prices to try and decide if O2 gets to keep me or if I should shuffle off to Vodafone or Orange. I hate maths but I hate spending too much money even more! What makes things worse is that T-Mobile, Tesco and 3 have yet to show their hand – Vodafone kinda let things slip so that’s the info that’s being used Now, if the figures in Vodafone’s ‘leaked’ price plan is kosher then that’s the network with the best offers for the cheapest deal and the for the ‘average’ user. In comparison, Orange has the most expensive ‘plan’ for the iPhone 4 32GB. Enter a 2 year contract and put just £29 up front you’ll get unlimited calls and texts,...
