Review: Taken via MovieBlog - We Just Love Movies! November 7th, 2008 at 06:03

image TakenStarring: Liam NeesonDirected by: Pierre Morel "This is Liam Neeson at his best, a definite must see!" When I saw the trailer for this film I thought this film looks good, and of course it was. The film sees a former spy called Bryan (Neeson) having to use his old skills to save his daughter when she's kidnapped, but the reason she was taken is every parents worst nightmare. Bryan only has a 96 hour window to find his daughter, or she will be lost forever. What a brilliant film from start to finish, at the start we see exactly what sort of job Bryan is involved in, little does he know he will need those very skills to save his daughter. The film seems to be some sort of cross between Bond and Bourne, very well constructed, a brilliant plot that brings awareness to what is happening...

Review: Quantum of Solace via MovieBlog - We Just Love Movies! November 5th, 2008 at 11:06

image Quantum of Solace - the review......Starring Daniel Craig as James Bond. I don't want to start off on a negative note but there's much bad press about this film not "living up to the original James Bonds", "Quantum of Solace was not a great Bond film", "Daniel Craig just isn't right as Bond". But what we need to realise is that the Bond films seem to be moving into a new and exciting direction, Sean and Roger were excellent Bond's, but their day has now gone, Daniel Craig is taking it into a new era, and it's going to be good! Quantum of Solace is a direct sequel to Casino Royal, a film which set the new standard for Bond films, so I'd watch this film first before seeing Quantum of Solace. Quantum of Solace sees Bond looking to track down the organization which he feels is responsible...

Will we be watching the Watchmen? via MovieBlog - We Just Love Movies! October 31st, 2008 at 15:56

image So now the hype for Quantum of Solace is almost over, and the Dark Knight is well in the past, will we now all be following one of the most anticipated films for 2009, Watchmen? It's safe to say that films originating from Comic Books become huge hits, and the internet hype can be enormous. If watching the trailer for Watchmen makes you shiver, then you've certainly been bitten by the bug. I know I have. I'm sure you have too. But sometimes these big money making film companies can release too much pre-release content, and so spoiling the surprises, or just the entire film. I suppose if you don't want to know then don't watch or read. But with so many sites out there now releasing that content, it's hard not to. We could all do with a little taster now and again, as Watchmen isn't due for...

Review: Saw V via MovieBlog - We Just Love Movies! October 29th, 2008 at 16:04

image Saw VDirected by: David Hackl, Starring: Tobin Bell as Jigsaw. Well here we have it, the fifth instalment of the Saw series. Mark Hoffman and Agent Strahm are much of the focus this time round. But whilst trying to uncover the truth one shall meet a crushing end, whilst the other will live to continue Jigsaw's work, undetected. Also 5 more people are put to the test, and must do the opposite of their instincts to survive. But will they listen carefully enough to the tape? It's hard trying not to give too much away really, the film sets it's self out from the start, we kind of know who's who. There are many flashback too, used to uncover the truth. The film starts with quite a gory test, but is that test really real. We see alot more depth in the film and perhaps less gore and frights....

Obama TV ad - ‘Wassup’ via Northstar Blog October 29th, 2008 at 15:26

Eight years ago Budweiser changed its image from the Traditional heritage theme of the Budweiser Horses to the zany Wassup series of commercials. They managed to make cutting edge adverts that embodied the craze of ‘Water Cooler moments’… when co-workers would meet at the water cooler or at a coffee break and say ‘Wassup’. Well, times have changed and now Barack Obama’s marketing team have brought them back to life with this brilliant and poignant send up. It’s the first and only great political broadcast I’ve seen; with a bit of humour it points out what has happened under the Bush administration: the credit crunch, Iraq, global warming, the housing crises, unemployment and healthcare. Without saying anything, it says everything. Right on...

Not with a bang but a whimper via The Devil's Kitchen October 27th, 2008 at 11:42

The Nameless Libertarian has written a really excellent essay on how classic works of dystopian fiction tend towards... well... fiction. They tend to rely on some massive cataclysm to enable the totalitarian governments, when this is not, in fact, the case. All of this literary criticism does have a point, and it is this: dystopian works of fiction have their place, there is no doubting that. But they are fiction: they do not represent reality. As I’ve already mentioned, the reality of the slide towards totalitarianism is far less exciting, or obvious as it is presented in fiction. Don’t imagine that there will be terrible war before the state takes complete control; they won’t need to do that. And they are not going to utter clear statements of intent, like burning books. The...

Movies: High School Musical 3, Saw V and Pride and Glory via Odd News | newslite.tv October 26th, 2008 at 18:43

image By Erik SamdahlWell, my weekly column covering U.S. movie releases has hardly been weekly. I’ll blame it on a vacation to Cancun and a subsequent virus I picked up in that hellhole, but excuses aside, a ton of movies have come to theaters recently, with only more on the way. This week, we see several big releases hit the stage, including High School Musical 3 and Saw V. High School Musical 3, the first theatrical release for the Disney franchise, is expected to be huge. Analysts are predicting anywhere from $50 to $100 million in its opening weekend. As such, I will spend the week praying that this doesn’t happen. High School Musical 2 was almost unbearable to watch, with its cheerfully bad music and choreography, and I don’t expect this watered down sequel to be any better....

Days of Glory / Indigènes via Daithai C October 26th, 2008 at 16:04

image Liberte, Egalite, Fraternite. This film examines the three pillars on which the French Republic stands through the eyes of soldiers summoned from its colonies to fight a war for liberalising a people, while enjoying few of those rights themselves. Put into the worst of battles towards the end of World War II, with the least compensation in terms of money, promotion, leave or even rationed tomatoes, soldiers from France’s colonies in North Africa - particularly Algeria - fight a cold, brutal war and die an unknown death. The Government they are fighting for feels no need to understand their religion, needs or culture.Days of Glory (French: Indigènes) is a French drama film directed by French-Algerian Rachid Bouchareb. The cast includes Sami Bouajila, Jamel Debbouze, Samy Naceri, Roschdy...
