101 uses for a George Bush - cartoon via hackcartoonsdiary.com November 11th, 2008 at 08:18

image My Australian colleagues, Jon Kudelka and Nik Scott are running an interesting drawn project - 101 uses for George Bush - in the wake of Barack Obama’s election as the 44th President of the United States. I was very happy to see one of George’s new uses is to have been a charming host to Mr and Mrs Obama on their first official visit to the White House yesterday. My own entry, shown here, is currently under consideration, quite understandably, as it does refer to the tricky subject of death. (Drawing about death can upset some readers of cartoons who tend to think they should be ‘fun’ and not about ‘things’ at all.) At the time of writing this, I am not sure it will make the cut, although I am arguing; we all die if we get buried, we make good...

The cartoonists’ father reminds him of something important via hackcartoonsdiary.com November 10th, 2008 at 15:37

There have been large recent news events, the election of Barack Obama and the near-collapse of the dominant system of banking in the western democracies, but, in among the big stuff, small, human sized news can easily get overlooked. My father reminded me of this with a short piece of observation about access to the law, housing advice and legal aid in the United Kingdom. Over to my father; Access to these resources is unhappily much more limited than it was twenty years ago, and the deterioration continues. Two recent instances show this: in East Hertfordshire, the Citizen’s Advice Bureau network has been compelled to cut spending by c.£100,000-00, and has decided to achieve it by merging two busy offices in the towns of Hertford and Ware. Citizens Advice Centres provide help...
