Sony PS3 Move not Arc – Motion Controlling Wand gets Named and Shown off via GadgetyNews.com March 11th, 2010 at 14:46

image Sony has been showing off its Nintendo Wii baiting motion controller. They’ve also officially named it: PlayStation Move. Sony created a bit of a stir at the PlayStation presentation held at the Games Developer Conference in San Francisco. The naming of the Move may have lost a number of people money if they’d been betting on Sony naming the motion controller Arc. The PlayStation Move requires the use of a wand-like device a bit like a rounded Wiimote, with Sony’s Eye camera used as the sensor to track your movements – Sony are bragging that it’s the ‘most precise’ and ultra-sensory device of its kind. The good thing is that the Move can be integrated into more established PS3 titles – games of choice for underling this was...

OnLive Release Date & Price Announced via Technology Blog (UK), Hi-Tech Gadgets & Gaming - Zath! March 11th, 2010 at 12:36

image Remember the online gaming service we covered a few months ago called OnLive that moves your gaming to the cloud? Well it just got real. In case you missed it, OnLive aims to deliver over the air gaming to users in a similar way to general cloud computing. Data and games are stored on OnLive servers and the images are beamed to gamers around the world who compete in an online environment. The Beta went up quite a while ago and it seems the waiting is almost at an end for US gamers, as the official OnLive launch date has been announced as 17th June 2010. For $15 a month users will be able to access the OnLive community, however games themselves will cost that little bit extra which is a given considering developers are still going to want their money’s worth out of their games. However...

Playstation Move Announced (PS3 Motion Controller) via Technology Blog (UK), Hi-Tech Gadgets & Gaming - Zath! March 11th, 2010 at 11:59

image It’s taken a while for the official name of the Playstation 3 motion controller, ‘wand’, ‘arc’ or whatever else people wanted to call it, but Sony have released the official name for their motion controller as the ‘Playstation Move‘. The announcement was made at GDC yesterday along with a trailer of the type of games that we’ll be looking at playing to start off with. With true 1:1 motion control, it is said to be more responsive than Nintendo’s Wii Motion Plus controllers which is a bold statement. I’m looking forward to seeing just how the PS3 Move is and what kind of games will be released for it. The fact we’ll be able to play motion controlled games in HD isn’t really a major factor. What I want is a game that uses Move and to get me...

OnLive Cloud Gaming Platform Launching June 17th 2010 via Geeky-Gadgets March 11th, 2010 at 08:17

image Some of our readers will remember the OnLive cloud gaming platform that we told you about back in March of 2009, good news as they have just announced that OnLive will launch on the 17th of June 2010. The OnLive gaming service is slightly different than console gaming, all you will need to play a game on the platform is either a PC or a Mac, the games are actually run from OnLive server, similar to cloud computing so you will be able to play them even on low end computers. OnLive has also announced that it will be launching a MicroConsole, which is basically a cheap cassette sized adapter than can be plugged into your PC to stream games from the OnLive server. It certainly will be interesting to see how well the OnLive platform works. If they get it right and are able to stream the same...

Sony will be selling the PlayStation Move in three desperate packages, the first package is the Move controller on its own, the second package is with the  Move controller and a PlaySation Eye plus a Game, and the their package will include a PS3 console with everything you need to use the Move controller. Sony has announced the pricing and the Move controller, plus the PlayStat ion Eye and a game will retail for less than $100. It looks like some games may need two controllers, although Sony hasn’t said whether they are sold in a pair. The Sony...

3D Gaming On Playstation 3 In June 2010? (PS3) via Technology Blog (UK), Hi-Tech Gadgets & Gaming - Zath! March 10th, 2010 at 14:01

image The Playstation 3 could be receiving a firmware update as early as this June, which will include the ability for PS3’s to play 3D games. This will be to coincide with the release of Sony’s new Bravia 3D-Ready TV’s which are set for a release of June 10th in Japan with the price of the 46inch 3D TV set at around 350,000 yen which equates to around £2,500. But no doubt the price will be higher over here as is the norm, so expect a price of around £3000 for the first 3D ready TV to hit the UK shores. Hopefully they’ll be cheaper than that, but I highly doubt it. I can’t see this being an instant hit as Sony are pricing the average gamer out of the 3D market as soon as it’s launched, because who the hell as a spare £2500+ laying around the house? But with the upcoming release...

Power Gig: Rise of the Six String! Like Guitar Hero but Better and More Useful! via GadgetyNews.com March 9th, 2010 at 23:26

image If you enjoy a good game of Guitar Hero and/or Rock Band but can’t help that nagging feeling in the back of your mind telling you that playing these is all very well but it’s not actually teaching people to play an instrument – well, my gadgety friends, Seven45 Studios may be our saviours for they bring Power Gig. The first instalment of this game sounds almost like a ManOWar album: Rise of the Six String! As the title suggests – the game controller is an actual, real, stringed instrument. It sounds like the proto-axes and alpha build of the game were pretty impressive and the fact that not only will you be able to buy individual packs you’ll be able to get you buddies involved with the “band bundle” that includes the game, a...

Power Gig Guitar Game Uses Real Guitars via Geeky-Gadgets March 9th, 2010 at 14:37

image Music games like Guitar Hero and Rock Band are hugely popular, although they have been criticized as they don’t teach children and young people how to play musical instruments, instead they just use game controllers with a few buttons that look like musical instruments. Seven45 Studios is about to change all that, as they are working on a new game called Power Gig. Power Gig is different to other music console games as it uses a real musical instrument for the games controls. The game will be controlled via a six string guitar, and when you want to play the game on your Xbox or PS3 you press a button on the guitar and a dampening block pops up and holds the guitar strings in place, you then use the guitars fingerboard to control the game. Whats is cool about this type of controller...

Steam Coming To Mac OS X (Digital Games Distribution) via Technology Blog (UK), Hi-Tech Gadgets & Gaming - Zath! March 9th, 2010 at 12:23

image I know, I know, Christmas happened way back in December, but presents are better late than never! In case any of you Apple fanboys out there missed the news, Steam announced yesterday morning that they’re bringing their service to the Mac along with a great library of games which will be available to purchase like PC users running Steam. In case you’ve not used used it before, Steam is probably the best digital games distribution platform out there, which most of the big and small games publishers are now using to cut out the need for physical media distribution for games. Not only are publishers using it to release new games, but also to find a market for their older games, for example Lucasarts re-released some of their older classic titles. It’s fair to say that...

Good news for all the Mac users out there as Valve has officially confirmed that its Steam gaming platform will be available for Macs from April 2010. Some of the games that will be available on the Steam for Mac platform at launch will include the popular, Left 4 Dead 2, Team Fortress 2, Counter-Strike, Portal, and the Half-Life series. “Our Steam partners, who are delivering over a thousand games to 25 million Steam clients, are very excited about adding support for the Mac,” said Jason Holtman, Director of Business Development at Valve. “Steamworks for the Mac supports all of the Steamworks APIs, and we have added a new feature, called Steam...

Yakuza 3 via GadgetLite - Latest gadgets and technology news March 9th, 2010 at 07:30

image Check out our new £250 Amazon voucher giveaway! Yakuza 3 Yakuza 3 might have been a long time coming, this game is going to be release later this month, but it’s another great PS3 swansong. And it’s easy to see why Sega took its time bringing the game to Europe. On the one hand it’s a very good beat-em-up packed with cool gangsters, the sort of stuff which translates easily but on the other it’s basically an upperclass Japanese lifestyle simulator, which is understandably a much harder sell. You play, Kiryu Kauma, who spends his life alternately brutalizing thugs and dosing around swanky Japanese towns. This is a set against a relentlessly paced mob story that sees our man – the former head of the Tojo clan, now retired called upon a crisis hits his old gang. The plot is...

The system records cerebral electric activity through an electroencephalogram (EEG), in basic terms the electrodes attached to the scalp via the headgear. The right and left flippers were controlled through thoughts of right or left hand movements by the player. Tomb Raider: Lara Croft & The Guardian Of Light Screenshots via Technology Blog (UK), Hi-Tech Gadgets & Gaming - Zath! March 8th, 2010 at 16:17

image Last week we mentioned that Crystal Dynamics were set to release a brand new downloadable Tomb Raider game titled Lara Croft and The Guardian of Light. At the time, there weren’t any screenshots to show you, but some have just surfaced and upon my first look, it made me wince. It looks more like a platform puzzle game compared to what we’re used to seeing Lara Croft doing. The camera is very Alien Breed-esque which, for a Lara Croft game, doesn’t bode well in my opinion. I might be pleasantly surprised by it, but it looks more like a filler game whilst we wait for the next proper instalment of a Tomb Raider title. Don’t get me wrong, it looks nice for a download title, but it just isn’t Tomb Raider in my eyes. What do you think? Do you think they’ll cheapen the Tomb...

The Japanese company is already making steps with its Sony Online Service having iTunes firmly in its sights and add that to a bunch of new mobile gadgets to use SOS – it sounds like plots are forming. The report claims a source says that there will be a PSP-phone and an iPad style tablet that “blurs distinctions among a netbook, an e-reader and a PSP.” These new devices will join the PSP Go and get access to SOS which will enable them access to games, music, movies and, more-than-likely, e-books....

Monkey Island 2: Special Edition On It’s Way? (Rumour) via Technology Blog (UK), Hi-Tech Gadgets & Gaming - Zath! March 8th, 2010 at 10:14

image We could be about to see an announcement from Lucasarts on the re-release of Monkey Island 2. Following on from the success that Lucasarts had from re-releasing the first Monkey Island: Special Edition, why would they not do it for the second? Which was arguably a better game? Of course if they did re-release the second of Guybrush Threepwood’s adventures, I sure it would get a graphical overhaul as well as audio for the characters in the game. I’m a big fan of Monkey Island of have them all set on my shelf including the latest Tales of Monkey Island, so to get to play Monkey Island 2: LeChuck’s Revenge with better visuals sounds like fun to me. The rumours that this could also be released on the PSN this time around along with Xbox 360, PC and iPhone as the first remake was....

Revenge of the Wounded Dragons Review (PSN) via Technology Blog (UK), Hi-Tech Gadgets & Gaming - Zath! March 7th, 2010 at 19:40

image When I first saw this I was thinking it looked like a classic side scrolling beat ‘em up, a lot like Street of Rage/Double Dragon and that maybe it could be a real gem from the Playstation Network (PSN), well once the PSN login error has been fixed. But unfortunately I was left quite disappointed by Wounded Dragons. The aim of the game is to save what appears to be your sister from some mob bosses as they stormed the shop, killed your father and took off with your sister. All in all, not very nice guys. So it’s up to the brothers to fight their way to the top bosses and get back their sister and revenge for the death of their father. It’s only a short game and should only take you a few hours to complete as there are 4 chapters to the game, each with 6 areas to fight...

Virgin Broadband – Next-gen fragging for Discerning gamers.. via GadgetLite - Latest gadgets and technology news March 5th, 2010 at 12:00

image We have an iPod Touch winner! Virgin Broadband – Next-gen fragging for Discerning gamers.. Another night, another marathon Call of Duty session. You have finally scoped out the hateful sniper who’s been pwning your team with a cold eye and withered husk of a heart, and crept into position inch by painstaking inch. He’s toast. Your finger slowly depresses the trigger and…Eh?! One moment he’s crouching, helpless, under your crosshairs, the next he suddenly, impossibly, flits out of harm’s way, safe to kill another day. The dreaded lag strikes again. You have lost the match, your team has been humiliated, and all because your sister’s been hogging precious bandwidth uploading photos of her new emo friends to Facebook. War may be hell, but sluggish broadband blows like a wind...

3D Batman Arkham Asylum Announced via Technology Blog (UK), Hi-Tech Gadgets & Gaming - Zath! March 5th, 2010 at 11:44

image It was a huge success on it’s release, so it’s no surprise to hear the we’re getting a Game of the Year edition of Batman Arkham Asylum. But that’s not all. The Game of the Year edition will come with the option to play in 3D on regular TV’s, so no 3D-ready TV is required. Whilst the GOTY edition will be released on PS3, 360 and PC, it will be only the consoles that will benefit from this feature. The game will use TriOviz 3D, which “…is a patented 3D process which adds depth to the game…” Of course we’ll have to wear 3D specs to play the game and you’ll get a set included with a copy of the game, but I’m hoping that I can use the 3D specs I have from my times watching 3D films at the cinema as they’d be better than some cardboard ones thrown in with the...

New Tomb Raider Game – Download Only via Technology Blog (UK), Hi-Tech Gadgets & Gaming - Zath! March 4th, 2010 at 16:41

image A brand new Tomb Raider is on its way which is to be called ‘Lara Croft and The Guardian of Light’. Crystal Dynamics who have been responsible for the last three Tomb Raider outings which include the only next gen Tomb Raider, ‘Tomb Raider Underworld’ are set to make the next instalment in the popular franchise starring Lara Croft. However this time around, Lara Croft is going to be turning up as a digital download-only game title sometime this year. There’s no word on which console(s) this will appear on, but my bet is it will appear on both PS3 and Xbox 360 with the possibility of a PC release and maybe even as a WiiWare game. Apparently Lara’s next big adventure will be “…something completely new and very different…” according to Crystal Dynamics general...

World of Warcraft Under Attack by Key Logger Trojan via Geeky-Gadgets March 4th, 2010 at 14:26

image Reports indicate that a World of Warcraft trojan is spreading that intercepts the authentication code generated by the Blizzard Authenticator system. When players enter their code before logging into their accounts the Trojan steals the code and gains access to the players account but also sends a false code to Blizzard so the login will fail and makes the authenticator useless. To check if you have been infected follow the instructions below. To know if you have been already affected scan for a file called “emcor.dll” on your system. Forever Geek suggests: While this might discourage you from spending $6 on an authenticator, I would still suggest you get one. While an authenticator might still get hacked, it still gives added protection to your accounts. Also get/invest on a good...

Valve’s Steam Gaming Platform Coming To Apple Macs? via Geeky-Gadgets March 4th, 2010 at 11:17

image One of the most popular gaming platforms available on PCs is Valve’s Steam platform, with popular games like Counter Strike, Team Fortress 2 and many more. On the current platform on PCs you can download and play hundreds of different games, rather than having to actually buy them from a store, and this and the amount of cool games available has made it one of the most popular PC gaming platforms. It looks like Valve intends to bring the Steam gaming platform to Apple Macs, which would be great news for Mac users and gamers. Valve have left a number of hints on various websites across the web, hinting that Steam is headed to Macs. Steam users have also noticed some Mac files in the latest Steam update, which could also point to the platform soon being available on the Mac. It is...

Activision’s Blur Brings Online Multiplayer to Silver Xbox Members via Geeky-Gadgets March 4th, 2010 at 10:33

image Activisons new racing game Blur which they are hoping to release in May 2010 is going to be the first game to allow non paying Silver Xbox Live members to play in an online multi-player environment. The game is also claiming to be the first game that will allow PS3 and Xbox owners to play against each other. But don’t get to excited just yet as the  function merely posts a time to beat on a course over to your opponent via social networking so you don’t actually race against each other in real time. However the game does allow four way split screen feature for local multiplayer gaming. Activision is hoping to release  Blur on May 25th in the U.S. — May 28th in the U.K says Paul Murphy from Activison. Is your PSP ready to hit the streets? via GadgetLite - Latest gadgets and technology news March 4th, 2010 at 08:00

image We have an iPod Touch winner! Is your PSP ready to hit the streets? Beauty is only skin deep when you are nose to the screen, thumbs deep in God of War: Chains of Olympus, all that matters is the code chugging away within the system. You are probably oblivious to what your Playstation Portable is wearing. But when your bus swerves to avoid a jaywalking squirrel, the right outfit could save you from a disfiguring scratch across the back of your system, and a bucketful of tears. PSP owners have traditionally avoided covering their hand held with adhesive based skins. Some gamers dig the pristine purity of their naked system. Fair enough. But others are simply repulsed by the notion. What if the skin fits awkwardly, like a Metal Gear game on a non Playstation system? What if it leaves...
