I like the promise that Pico Projectors make. Being able to take a small projector with you easily and have that projector run on batteries to give presentations or watch content on a larger screen is a very nice thing. The reality is that the technology of today isn’t there to make a pocket projector work for most people.
Toshiba has unveiled a new pocket projector called the Lumileo P100. The little projector has the same basic flaw all of its kind do – poor brightness. The P100 has a mere 14 lumens and tells you a dark room in required to get the 65-inch image it can throw. It has a contrast ratio of 200:1.
Inputs include RCA and VGA and the projector runs from a rechargeable battery. The P100 measures 116 x 50 x 18mm and weighs 96g with the battery installed. The sound...

Being rich would bring a whole new set of life problems that those of us that are not rich would like to try and solve. If you are loaded and collect expensive watches, you might want to protect them and keep them wound up without having to slum it and wind the things yourself.
The perfect thing would be the new Chronos Safe from Brown Safe Manufacturing. The thing has several ways the insides can be configured including one with a sweet rotating watch gallery and self-winding mechanisms. The safe also has a very robust security system.
The safe uses fingerprint biometric sensors, GPS anti-theft system that interacts with a home automation system and more. The outside of the safe if covered with military-grade ballistic armor too. I don’t even want to know what this would cost.

Taking their cue from your average plant/tree leaf, scientists at MIT have successfully created a synthetic chloroplast that may one day be used on solar cells.
While it won’t revolutionize green energy at the moment, the breakthrough showed enough promise to merit further testing that will increase is efficiency. Take note, as we mentioned the process involved is no different from how a harmless plant sustains itself despite constant UV exposure.
If you think this is all beyond your grasp, fear not because we’ll bother explaining how it works. You start with different molecules that form the chloroplast. These include carbon nanotubes and synthetic phospholipids. The resulting compounds forms a structure well suited for absorbing solar energy.
However once exposed to a surfactant,...

The electric candle has been named as the most useless gadget of all time. The flameless light source, which can be powered by batteries or mains, beat electric nail files and laser-guided scissors to claim the dubious honour.Other engineering follies to make the top twenty dire devices include the bread-maker, electric fluff removers and the mini disk player, also made the top ten.Three quarters of people admit to having bought a gadget they've rarely used and half said they've regretted a gadget purchase. The list emerged from a poll carried out among 3,000 Brits… who probably all have that familiar drawer of useless tech.

Rick Prescott must be feeling like a million bucks right now, even if the official cash prize for topping the MAKE/Design News Gadget Freak Design Contest is only $1,000.
The reason is pretty clear cut given the success of his diabolical creation. While Mr. Prescott is far from Thomas Edison incarnate, his target-acquiring and heat-seeking spin on a humble Nerf gun has literally blown away the competition. It will likely blow you away too if you cross the guy.
Designed for the sinister purpose of keeping intruders away from his office cubicle, Mr. Prescott describes the Nerf Machinegun’s use as necessary to “speed interaction with less desirable visitors.” While this smacks of a disturbed misanthropic paranoiac’s line of reasoning, it in no way diminishes the man’s coolness....

Why, color us impressed. Isn’t this cute? In case you’re scratching your head, scratch no more. What you see is an Altoids tin turned grill thanks to some clever workmanship. Though a grill this size really begs the question: What can it grill? Peas?
The guy who made it suggests small hotdogs and a burger patty. We’re very tempted to add “—that could feed a midget.” To cook even a mite-sized portion of the meat inside your fridge, this DIY grill can only accommodate tiny cutlets at best.
Alas, we are getting ahead of ourselves. In the first place, we should have given you a rundown of its parts and construction. Here it is: So you’ve got an Altoids tin lying around. Open it, then grab a hold of a computer fan guard and some tools or perhaps just a pair of pliers....

We love anything to do with steampunk here at Geeky Gadgets, and now artist Sarah Calvillo decided to make a steampunk version of Mr Potato Head. This new steampunk version is aptly named Sir Spudnik, Mr Potato Heads Victorian counterpart.
Spudnik, as I call him, was a project that was inspired by a craft swap project. Designers and crafters alike randomly were paired with a different theme and a material. My theme was “steampunk” and my material was “old toy.” Every project was open for interpretation.
You can see full details of how Sarah made this fun steampunk Mr Potato Head over at Instructables.

See that hot chick drowning in the pool? Be her hero and subsequent loverboy by not just carrying her to safety, but performing CPR as well. That is, if she’s unconscious.
What if you don’t know proper CPR? Better plop down some of the green notes ($149 to be exact) just in case. Lest you’re wondering what exactly PocketCPR does, rest assured it doesn’t do the CPR by itself. Instead it monitors the CPR you’re performing on someone and instructs you on what should be done correctly.
Here’s how it works: Place it on someone’s chest and when you start the compressions (don’t forget to count) the PocketCPR blinks LED signals (four lights is good, one light means harder) and issues verbal stats on proper technique. So if the person you’re trying to save is not responding, be...

We have featured a few different USB drives here at Geeky Gadgets, along with some tiny ones, here is another small USB drive the LaCie MosKeyto.
The LaCie MosKeyto looks like the sort of thing I would lose quite easily, it measures just 20mm long, the USB connector takes up 14mm so when it is plugged into your computer there will just be 4mm sticking out.
The LaCie MosKeyto comes in a range of different storage sizes, 4GB will set you back $17.99 whilst 8GB will set you back $27.99, and LaCie will also be launching a 16GB model, although there are no details on pricing as yet.
The LaCie MosKeyto USB drive is now available from LaCie.

It has been a long time since I have been sorely tempted by a new gadget, which is a bit of a relief for the wallet but makes life more boring. I used to be able to spend hours browsing Comet or PC World wanting every other thing in there but I have sort of reached the point where I have everything I want. The best the world can offer is a slightly bigger or better version of something I already have and am happy with.
Well that has changed and there are now there toys I quite fancy, even though only two of them actually exist.First of all there is the Kindle. E-Book readers have been around for a while but have not particularly grabbed my attention. Having packed up all my books recently I have realised that having a lot of them is actually a burden. I have, perhaps, been...

Back in the old days if you wanted music in every room of your house you had to do it with wires that generally needed to be installed before the walls were covered with sheetrock. Today we can use wireless tech to get music all around the house with a bunch of different offerings including several wireless devices from Creative.
Creative has added a new wireless speaker to its line called the Creative D220W Wireless Speaker. This thing is aimed at the user wanting to get music into multiple rooms of the home and still get decent sound quality. The speaker works with an included USB wireless transmitter that will also work with other Creative wireless speakers that are on the market.
That USB adapter supports Mac and Windows machines and has a 100-foot wireless range. The speaker can...

With the Apple onslaught all but sweeping away every last vestige of resistance, speculation over Microsoft’s own answer to the iPod Touch has begun circulating across the blogosphere.
If the experts are to be believed ,a brand spanking new Zune HD might be ready by the start of 2011. This courtesy of ZDNet’s Mary Jo Foley whose in-the-know sources hinted at such a PMP coming soon. No specifics though, so in the meantime we can twiddle our thumbs and wonder.
Wonder is indeed what’s been going on at the blogs who’ve circulated this bit of news. Of course, since nothing’s official yet there’s been a speculation-fest on what kind of hardware to expect from a revamped Zune.
The Zune enjoys the privilege of being well-regarded both for its looks and performance by the tech press...

No, we didn’t mess up our grammar on the title of this post. This strange contraption from designer George Lee is called “A Date With Wine.”
It’s a tongue in cheek hint at its use—see those numbers? You’re supposed to set the date you opened a bottle of wine before you plug it. Though best practice is drinking a bottle to the last drop, the moderates among us may prefer A Date With Wine for preserving our sobriety.
Though we must admit, based on personal experience, unfinished bottles of wine tend to hang around for a while. We’re thinking the date on this stopper bothers your conscience enough to start guzzling the red stuff. Hey, why not? It’s good for your health anyway.
Oh, and the dates have another use. Didn’t we mention unfinished wine has the bad habit of uh,...

At the IFA in Berlin this morning – a big ol’ electronics and gadgets fair that showcases new products – Samsung officially launched the Galaxy Tab, their highprofile tablet PC.
Actually, it’s difficult to say whether it’s a tablet or an oversized phone. It has a 7 inch screen, runs on Android 2.2 and is 3G capable, so it’s creating a curious sub-market inbetween large screen smartphones and iPad-sized tablets.
It’s available in two flavours – 16GB or 32GB, which is expandable by 32GB more. Connectivity allows for 3G, WiFi and Bluetooth, and the device also supports Adobe Flash Player 10.1. It also delivers a blow to the iPad by serving up front and rear-facing cameras – functionality that Apple should have included in the iPad from...

An iron has become a necessity these days, and is a must have for almost every household. Washed clean and neatly presses clothes is what everybody wants!! But how many times has it happened that you switched on the iron and got an urgent phone call while you were ironing? If u talk a bit longer and forget to switch off the iron then your clothes are ruined.
Many times we lose our favourite garments because we forget to switch off the iron and engage into something else. So the roly poly iron will take care of this!! You must have seen that the roly poly toy if thrown on ground stands up by itself and it doesn’t fall down. So this roly poly iron does the same. It stands up on its own. And it can be one of the gifts for your teenaged daughter or son staying at the...

Check out this gravity deifying iPad Stand called the Padfoot. The tiny corner stand is created from one piece of plastic with a slot cut into it in which you insert your iPad.
Without actually seeing how this stand works it does seem very small and insignificant (only weighing 15g) to hold upright the quite hefty iPad, safely without it slipping.
The PadFoot is manufactured in tough but lightweight, 3D printed polyamide and is finished with a fine surface texture. The Padfoot is available to purchase for $25 from Shapeways
You can find more information about the new Padfoot iPad stand from the Michiel Cornelissen website.

Sony are up against it again with another PS3 Jailbreak now on the scene, only shortly after Sony was able to block sales of the recent PSJailbreak USB device.
The new PSGroove is calling itself the Open Source PSJailbreak and Sony will definitely have their work cut out trying to block the distribution of this jailbreak.
The new PSGroove project is still in the early stages of development but can already be used on a USB stick to unlock a PS3 and already run unsigned code.
ISO booting is also disabled making it unusable for running copied games, but the keyword there is “disabled” meaning the functionality to do so is already there, it just needs to be re-enabled.
More information is available from the PS3Hax website......

Last time we looked at the physical aspects of the tiny Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 mini – you can catch up in A Closer Look At The Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini Part One – and this time we’ll take a look at some of the functions of the phone.
As we discovered in the previous article this phone runs Android version 1.6 so it benefits from some of the advantages of the Android operating system – most notably of which is access to the Android Market Store for adding applications.
As the screen is small, each main screen panel can hold just one Widget application, some may find it a problem, but I found it quite useful – it feels broadly similar to the excellent webOS in this particular aspect.
The hot touch areas in each corner of the phone are also useful as they can be...
