THE COALITION IS LIBERALLY SPRINKLED WITH HYPOCRITES via CALEDONIAN COMMENT June 21st, 2010 at 00:08

image In the UK the new Liberal Democrat Energy Secretary Chris Huhne was accused of ”deplorable hypocrisy” over the weekend for cheating on his wife while boasting of his commitment to family values at the recent general election. In his campaign leaflets Mr Huhne was pictured with his wife and told voters: “Family matters to me so much  -  where would we be without them?” At the same time the multi-millionaire MP  - and isn’t it striking how many of these Coalition cabinet ministers about to inflict public spending cuts and tax rises on the rest of us are immune from all that by being multi-millionaires ? – was having a secret affair with his bisexual mistress Carina Trimingham (pair pictured above). They reportedly used his (taxpayer subsidised)...

Armed Forces Day via The Mad Hatters June 27th, 2009 at 14:11

image Today, 27th June marks the 1st Armed Forces Day in the UK – a day to remember and give thanks to the men and women who have or are currently serving in the UK Armed Forces. Across the UK events will be taking place to mark the occasion. I have made no secret in the past of my opposition to the deployment of troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. I draw a distinction, however, between the operations our service men and women are engaged in at the personal vainglory of some political leaders and the men and women themselves. The following video commemorates just a few of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice For more details of Armed Forces Day Click here . . ....

TIME TO HONOUR OUR ARMED FORCES via From One End of Kent June 26th, 2009 at 20:24

image Tomorrow is Armed Forces Day. You can find out about it on the website here. Today I attended Steve Ladyman MP's Annual reception to honourour local Armed Forces veterans. Dave Green looked very impressive in full Mayoral regalia. My fellow ward councillor Liz Green as a County and District Councillor, and now also Ramsgate Mayoress will surely be the busiest representative in Kent in the coming year. Liz may not have stood for the Town Council, but she has been effecively "co-opted!" Liz works very hard already so I expect Dave will be "solo" at some events when her other commitments clash. There were a number of other Ramsgate and Thanet councilors present. It is good to listen to those who have served us. I spent most of my time with two men who had served in Korea and Malaya,...

Armed forces day via Skuds' Sister's Brother June 25th, 2009 at 22:01

image Saturday is Armed Forces Day.  Its OK to have not heard of it because this year is the first one. The official Armed Forces Day flag is flying outside my workplace at the moment, and I was genuinely surprised by it because it is the top half of our national flag, with the caption under it.   The surprise is because we get so stuffy about the flag I am amazed you are allowed to make another flag out of part of it - just remember the faux outrage when some summit or other had the little flag on the table upside down. As an aside, it is our own stupid fault for having a flag that is not symmetrical.  How on earth do you design a flag that is essentially several crosses superimposed and end up with something asymmetrical?   And another thing: why not make its official name the Union...

Flypast over Tower Bridge via IanVisits - The Blog June 25th, 2009 at 15:54

An FYI – on Friday 26th June 2009, there is due to be a flypast over Tower Bridge sometime between 12-1pm as part of the London Armed Forces Day. I haven’t been able to confirm who is doing the flypast, and the usual suspects are either elsewhere, or their diaries are empty. Nonetheless, might be worth wandering over to watch. There will be events all afternoon next to Tower Bridge as well – along with a Veterans parade over Tower Bridge at 12:15. There will also be a canon salute from the Tower of London during the parade. Details......
